Did something happen with matching people up last week or do I just suck?

Hi all,

Did something give last week? I had been doing fairly well (winning more than half of my games in 1v1, which is good to me ), but last Friday something changed and I, nor the 4 people I regularly play with have been able to do worth a crap. We are bronze and silver, nothing too major, but we keep getting matched with platinum, diamond, master, and gold players as even or slightly unfavored matches... needless to say, we're not winning too many. We ran into some gold players who randomly said they had the same thing happen last Friday.

Has anyone else experienced this? I do suck at this game, but to keep on being paired up with players who are so much more advanced than we are and STILL lose points is just stupid. And it was like a switch.

Anyone else experience this? We are frustrated to the point of honestly just quitting the game. We seem to never be able to win any more. We'll honestly only get a fair match maybe 1 out of every 5 games. Other than that, the people are always much higher level players than we are.

I've been experiencing the same thing in general, most recently my 4s. Honestly, I just go for ridiculous early-aggression builds against favored opponents.

 

I'm glad to hear we're not the only ones.

Quite frankly, its really making me angry. Something needs to be changed. There have to be other people at my level that we can give each other a challenge, but still win. I mean come on. Its beginning to turn me off from the game. Maybe it'll get better. I don't know. It just seemed to happen all of a sudden. Very strange.

Also, even very aggressive rushes don't help with someone who seems to have 4 hands to micro with. At least not until I can micro better... heh...

Maybe the match making system recognized improvement and is putting you against higher level people to see where you're going to get ranked next?

If that's not it then I have no clue. Your best bet is to find someone who can tutor you before playing a ladder match again.

 

To be honest, I do ok in 1v1. Most of those are actually even matches. Its when we play in 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4... those are the matches that are rarely even.

I have no doubt I could improve my playing drastically, especially my micro. But if its more than just me (and I do play with the same guys all the time), we will almost always be 4 bronze players going up against usually gold through master league, with the other players usually falling into diamond and platinum. We've only seen one master league. That guy was freaking insane.

But what are we going to do other than whine on a forum? Haha. j/k

ahhhh its so good to hear someone else has this problem. its seriously frustrating to the point of i just quit yesterday and havent had the urge to play since. im a bronze player too, and although i know there are a ton of things i can do to improve... im just a casual player, i dont really care about win ratio's or points or even what league im placed in. i just play to have fun, but lately, it isnt fun at all. i ask every opponent i play "hey what league are you in?" and 9 times out of 10, its either platinum or gold. and 9 times out of 10 i get my *** handed to me. after i lose, i check their profiles real quick to see what their league is and its always gold to diamond. and like you said, 1v1s arent like that, and are usually even.. its when i play 2v2s with my buddies that we get matched up against ridiculous people. i realize i could go through some strict training program to improve my game to compete against these platinum level guys, but honestly, i just play to have fun, and i wish i could play against people my own skill level. playing against gold through diamond arent fun to me.

i realize most people who play sc2 are extremely competitive and thats okay, and i realize blizzard probably caters more towards those folks than people like me. but it would be nice if they acknowledged that theres a serious problem in the 2v2 and up matchmaking system. i tried searching for it, and found some posts about matchmaking ratios and how you get promoted and bell curves and sigma, and its just whatever. you can get however fancy you want, but the bottom line is it's turning off casual players like us and making us frustrated because how are we ever going to have fun if we arent playing against fairly balanced teams? frustrating man, frustrating. i feel your pain.

again i realize since were bronze players, nobody will listen to us. theyll probly think we're just complaining newbs, they can think whatever they want but theyre probably a lot better than we are so they dont have this problem. the the OP, add me and maybe we can lose together sometime? haha screen names Tigershark. cheers in hopes that this gets fixed sometime soon,

Yeah, Blizzard actually acknowledged this issue in a recent update that read "Teams are more fairly balanced when playing 2v2, 3v3, or 4v4 predetermined teams" or something like that. It got better. But then there was an update yesterday that seemed to put it right back where it was. Saturday we were playing balanced teams. Yesterday we were playing gold through platinum again. It was really annoying and I hope they didn't break what they had JUST fixed.

We'll see.
