An MTV multiplayer interview with Jay Wilson, discussion art decisions in Diablo III, shooting down fan-proposed variations. It's a good read, especially since we've seen similar complaints voiced about StarCraft II. It's good to see, first hand, some of the reasoning behind certain artistic choices.
I thought MTV was about spoiled brats with diarrhea of the mouth. What gives? Anyways, nice find Neon. I rather like the blue and green of the first part of the dungeon the Barbarian went through. I actually thought to myself "Wow, this place looks really briny!" while watching it.
how about starcraft. i think the original one is the right choice. it does not look plain realistic (units meld with the bg) but rather excitingly flashy.
Weren't you the one who photoshopped a picture of a gritty Thor/ghost because you wanted darker saturation?
When I first witnessed the uber4 long gameplay vid and all other availble D3 materials I thought: F YEAH! I know what I'm doing from 2009 to 2015. THEY REPLACED THE NECRO!?!?! MOFOS!!!!! Ah, I'll still play it and love it." I love art. I love critiquing art. Never once did I find something broken with D3's style. Or even unappealing. I do see lots of broken unappealing bull **** with fan renditions. I really don't get the outcry. It seems like the sort of retarded **** you hear out of one lone forum poster who is immediately considered a jack ass. You know who. I'm so happy blizz fired back. Fanboys with that much time on their hands to ***** and moan will buy the game anyway. Great find.
*shifty eyes* But seriously, I agree with everything. It's a shame the director quit, but at least he was there long enough to keep Diablo3's artistic direction right on track.
you know, the only real color difference i have seen between d2 and d3 is the fact that there isnt a Light range anymore, i mean, the second act was kinda yellow, the third act had lots of green, and he fourth act had RED i never reached teh fifth though
Act 5 was white... And also the best. Coincidence? What do you mean there's no colour range any more? Inside the dungeon/cathedral was bluish, outside was a grassy green/yellow. You sure there isn't a colour range any more?
no a light range: the circle of light around you in a dungeon that makes all stuff around it appears dark, except when it glows, cause then it looks pretty
Hardly. It had some white, but also brown and light blue. Probably more brown than white, but I don't remember that well
@ ijffdrie. Ah, I see what you mean. Personally I'm glad the light radius's gone. It's just one of those random features that slowed the game down and hindered ranged classes. @ Meee. Yeah, you're right, but it wasn't a colourless kinda overwhelming brown. The white, or as you more accurately said, light blue, was what kept it from being too bland. Like how Act 4 wasn't really red, but the red kept it from being bland and colourless.
The display, as long as its not a hindrance, isn't something I tend to worry about. I thought the light radius looked cool, but otherwise it annoyed me. It felt like too much of the screen wasn't even in use. Act IV had some very grey areas and some very red/yellow/orange areas. The river of flame or whatever it was called was basically stone path surrounded by lava. Act V had some mini-dungeons that looked about the same, and I always thought that it was nice to change up the scenery and color schemes in an area every once in a while. Keeps it from getting boring too quickly.
