As my first post here let me start by saying thank you for welcoming me. I hope my comments can add to the intelligent dialog. Developers have you considered adding a headset option to SC II or at least some sort of pre-saved text option? here why: i believe that battlenet is hostile to new people, period. i have often been in team games where one guy says he's new and doesn't know how to ally. Or some guy needs help with his build order "how do i make such and such." at which point people on his team quit. just flat out leave. these peopl *forget* that at one time we were all new and needed instruction. On the other hand i can understand the frustration, it's difficult to stop your own build and start typing instructions "Do you see the handshake...it's on the bottom left click on it...etc.." "Ok, you want to build this, well you'll need to make this structure first...." "There's cannons swirling in your base quick kill the worker!" Whatever. if there was a headset option i could just chat without stopping. But some may object to this. Maybe a simpler solution would be to give the player and option to type out whole sentences, instructions whatever then save them to keys on the numeric key pad (on the right) then these would be saved. Once a game actually begins i cant simply push a key 1-9 (maybe also even shift + 1-9 to double the amount) and lo and behold i can give instructions, battle strategies etc.. all without stopping my build. no idea is perfect and if someone can point out a flaw or something i'm overlooking please point it out. i don't hate knowledge i love to be taught. P.s New people are the life blood of Starcraft and the online community. Without them battlenet would quickly fade.
having integrated voice chat would be nice, i think theres a good chance there will be considering they just implemented it for WOW.
Great idea!! i do get teed off by people who are new and do not know how to ally -.- And Welcome to the Forum ideology!!! whats up with people with cool names *sigh* -.-
I want it to be like AoE2....If you've never played it, they have these pre-packaged little sounds clips, like asking for resources, attack now, that kind of thing (And you can short cut it by typing sound*Insert number*).....And it's awesome, cause they also have these sort of joke sounds, like "Nice town.....I'll take it" and stuff like that.
The only drawback would be to memorise the numbers and what they say. But even with voicechat you'd need to select the player you want to speak to. I guess that would go through the allies menu so you'd still need to stop paying attention to your development.
A inbuild voicechat support would be the solution. Even newbs should have speakers. If using the internal vchat the channel would be set to be game specific and by defaust heard by your whole team.
wow im amazed that nobody has told you what seems to be the favorite word of the forum "noob", most likely in a sentence such as "if you dont know what to build, then dont play the game, you #"%$ noob!", hey they even made a tread in which they asked if the opinion of those "non-pro" players should be listened, i mean what the fuc....!!!!!? im proud of not being in that group, i like your idea a lot!, it would help new players and that way they wouldn have to take all the stupid attacks of some idiot that thinks they are god for playing a game and on top of that they have the "balls" to call noob someone that they can beat, but they forget about the thousands of players that can easily kick their butts, so lets hope blizz adds something like this for new players to find their way quickly. Oh and welcome to the forum! hope you enjoy it, just have fun and dont fight ith other members dude
I remember 9 YEARS AGO, when a videogame magazine, very important one, talked about Starcraft 1. Well the tester HATED this game !! He had more sympathy to Total Annihilation (the challenger of SC). He wrote so lots of critics. one of them talked about the "help" option in Starcraft. He just said (and I agree with him, sorry) that the helps and instructions were just dozens and dozens of pages that explained how to use a unit, how to build a structure, how to attack, etc ..... but nother clear in the head of the player. I hope Blizzard will well restructure the help option, not to let a newbie in the problem. You are right : without the new players the Blizzard games are fade. I was playing to SC1 for a loooooooooong time, and trust me, I AM STILL A NEWBIE. ;D Welcome to the forum, new member Ideology.
