    Hi there,

I had a TvT match on Lost Temple yesterday. I spawned on the nine o'clock and my opponent at the one o'clock position. After starting with my basic build order (blocking the chocke, ...) I teched straight to banshees and send two of them to harrass his mineral line. By that time he had some vikings up, scanned my cloaked banshees and took one of them out. No problem this far...

As the game progressed, I started some small attacks, some by air, some by ground to test out his defenses, to scout and to do some damage. I never got a counter attack by his forces. He simply took his natural expansion, set up a line of seven siege tanks together with several marines and build up a huge viking army. He also scattered several missle turrets all around in his base. Then he waited for me to attack!

I had complete map control, more income then I could spend and a huge army, but I was not able to get through his defense. At the end I simply ran army after army into his siege tanks to do as much damage as I could and after a game of 50 minutes he simply ran out of minerals and gas, said "I'm tired" and gg'd.

I won this game, but it was not really fun!

How am I able to break such a defense? Are there any good strategies?

What you did is a good way of dealing with it... starving them and teching yourself like crazy is good. If you want something more challenging, next time I would try spamming ravens and defence drones (or HSM against vikings if they're any good against that). Or try a nuke or two :D

that's the point of a macro game, you dwindle him down. but if you really want to know how to break a base. you need an army with tanks at front of his base, to keep him on his toes and do a split attack to his base/expos.

split attacks is what makes you pro :D

    What kuvasz and cHowziLLa said.

You did what you could. If you want to break it more early, try some nukes as kuvasz suggested.

Also, you may want to try abusing some cliff structure with your own tanks for fun.

Ik it is easier said than done, but I have found that players with the intention to turtle break down if you just push hard early on, so maybe even more aggression early if you think you can come out maybe not with the win right there, but with a strong push regardless.

Oh, and also vikings are extremely susceptible to a combo drop/viking run. What you do against tons of vikes (or at least what has worked for me on occasion) is make your own solid group of them and then make them transform at the edge of his base so they are safe from turrets and whatnot. He will then probably land his vikings in order to take yours out. When he is doing that, go in with a drop ship in the sneakiest place you can find near the battle and drop stuff to take him out.

Yeah, some ghosts with nukes would've been nice. I definately have to use them more often. I simply forget that they are there in most of my games. Don't know why! ;-)

If there is any cliffs near his expansions make some Medivacs make some Thor/Siege Tanks deployment up there and make as much damage as possible, because tanks won't be able to fire up there unless he brings some vikings. If he brings his vikings and put them on ground, I suggest you have some Maurauders nearby just in case. Also as someone said in this thread, some nukes on his workers to piss him off would be more than excellent!

Also if I understand well, your ennemy had some tanks in siege mode to defend his entrance. If his tanks where enough close to each other, simply cloak about 2 or 3 ghosts and nuke the tanks, then attack with Marine/Maurauder mobility to cut him down, and everybody knows vikings won't do **** against Maurauder/Marine mobile force.

And the third thing that comes on my mind is Battlecruisers, you said your opponent was not expanding much and you had map control and tons and tons of ressources. Battlecruisers can also be an effective counter.

I actually recently played a Terran who went all turtleish after my Banshees tore him up a bit (but he eventually triumphed with Turrets). Just remember that any time a Terran turtles with anything but pure units, those are resources that can't be used to attack you back, JUST defend. Contain him outside his ramp, ideally with things with splash (units bunch up on the ramp), and expand to gain more resources and advantage.

Create an "indentation" or hole in his tank defense with any number of things (BCs w/Yamamoto, Nukes, etc) or use some sort of distraction/bait to tank the intial tank fire (run in some spaces out marines, hellion, sentry drones, land a viking, etc) and move your own tanks into position to hold or widen that indent/hole.

Also abuse the cliff if he hasn't taken it. High ground is ridiculously strong in SC2 since they can't fire up if they don't have a spotter. Throw down some turrets/marines to punish any vikings that try to come and land on your tanks.

Also, how was his outer perimeter? You could always drop forces into his main base.
