Can anyone please tell me what Terran/zerg units detect invisibility. I just got owned by ONE (1) Dark Templar when I had MM + Siege tanks invading his base. I would've wrecked him if it wasn't for that Templar. -- Oh and He actually took out my entire base with it. I know that this unit loses a lot of its value when it's uncloaked but still; one unit? And yes, I should have had the detector up but that's not relevant.
You as terran should have had an easy time, well you will next time. Missile turrets and ravens detect, but works best and fastest is a scan from your orbital command which you should morph out of your command centers anyways. For zerg, it has to be overseer or spore crawlers, and for protoss, photon cannons or observers.
I appreciate the fast replies; thanks for the help. I do have the negative "tick" to use my energy for mules.
I primarily play protoss, and will occasionally dt rush in team games. I won't rush dts against terran due to the orbital command (19/20 times they have one). Rushing dts is fun in team games. If you do dt rush a terran, wait for them to use the energy on a MULE before attacking. If you're playing as terran, make sure you always have 45-50 energy in your orbital command so you're ready to scan.
@TerranRush 1st of all: DTs are actually the least effective in team games because that gives them a higher chance of having additional detection 2nd of all: how are going to wait till he uses his scan? The real strat is to make 3 DTs, send 1 in and do as muc damage as possible until he gets scanned AND THEN send your other 2 DTs and wreck havoc :/
lol i rlly dont see how you actually got owned by one dt thats just ridiculously hilarious no offence ravens are costly and timely to get, and i only use them in lategame i suggest you get your 2nd expo up and get 2 orbital coms if you have a tendancy to call down mules always save 1 OC for scanning as well too add up, missle turrets are better at engaging air units and dont do well as for detection because of their rather short range and un-ability to attack ground units i suggest OCs as the best defence against dts
not only just the OP, I used to play with my friend for 1v1 and for nearly a week I was owned by his simple DT attack. at beginning it was panic, then confuse, then research for solutions but couldn't implement properly. I guess it is the learning curve. btw he doesn't use DT attack anymore. i guess he learnt his share of lessons.
DTs still have a place in advanced game. I sometimes forget to build overseer or spore crawler, many protoss respond by building some dts. (Terran might send a cloaked banshee for harass) They do alot of damage if I need to morph an overseer first. It's only noobish to rely solely on them, but used properly and well timed, they are still fearsome units.
LOL sorry, but LOL. ROFL i love it (1) templar . you should feel worse about killing your opponent. i bet he really died from laughing so hard at that win
Primary detectors were listed in the 1st reply. You could also attempt unconventional detection if you are in a pinch, e.g. fungal growth for zerg, or blasting your own stuff that the DT is attacking with splash damage attacks (hellions/siege tanks in siege mode).
I can tell that some of you are having a laugh; please note that I am somewhat proud on myself for getting defeated by 1 DT; it remembers me of the fact that I suck at this game because I rarely play it -- spending quality time elsewhere.
Well, try scanning for a a DT temple, and if you see one, make sure your base is walled off, and theirs a detector behind the wall. Also, watch out for phase prisms.
