Hi! does anyone know how the cloaking mechanism of a Dark Templar works? I'm talking about lore, not the ingame unit.

If I recall correctly, they use their psionic abilities (Argus gem) to bend light around themselves.

Doesn't the term psionic abilities imply the link to the Khala? Or can it also be used with the Dark Templar, who take their abilities from the Void?

Ghosts and Queens have psionic abilities too, and they are not linked to the khala. As far as i know, the Khala is a product of psionic abilities, not the other way around.

I believe the super hipflexa hyper inflatuates the biomechanical super cloak technology which makes them appear invisible to enemies but not allies..unless the enemies have a unit that has the ability to see cloaked units.

Ghosts use a portable version of the Wraith cloaking device.

As far as Dark Templars, apparently it was Adun who taught them.

So does that mean that the ability to cloak could be taught to any protoss?

    Yup.

Adun followed the Khala, and was the progenitor of the cloaking knowledge, so it's not something limited to Protoss with missing psionic dreadlocks.

dark templar: psionic abilities to bend light around their bodies
    arbiter: warping space
i assume the mothership works the same way as the arbiter, except on a scale large enough to cloak buildings.
    wraith: some kind of machine
ghost: some kind of smaller machine.
    zerg: dirt.

so does a dark templar cloak indefinately? I mean, the ingame unit is always cloaked, but lorewise it wouldnt make much sense for a unit to always be cloaked right? can he simply cloak / uncloak at will or..?

The thing is, I'm writing a short story and I would like to know more about this dark templar ability!

i'm pretty sure it's something they do consciously, but it's so easy to do for them they keep their cloak permanent in-game.

It's a psionic ability which they activate/deactivate at will. That being said, lore wise, at least from comics and whatnot, they appear to decloak to fight (Starcraft Comic: Fear The Reaper/Fighting against Voice in the Darkness) when they stand a good chance of winning, implying that they'd rather not fight cloaked if they don't have to, so it must be somewhat taxing on them.

It's likely a honour thing, they would rather fight face-to-face than strike unseen.

LOL RHStag thanked a spambot! On topic, it's likely that it's difficult for them to fight cloaked since they can't see themselves....

Could easily slice off their own arm or something.

They're in a war on Starcraft 2/1 games, why would they uncloak?
