1- The use of buildings as shields is just stupid, and make the bases look ugly. Does it make sense that a bunker built with 100 minerals is easier to destroy than a suply depot that costs just the same? (I know it´s just for balancing, but I still don´t like it). Can you imagine a cinematic about the entrance of a Terran base showing three or four suply depots protecting the bunker from zealots? Is it stupid or not? 2- It gets to my nerves that for NO REASON AT ALL you can´t build base centers closer to minerals or gas. Again, I know it´s that way for game purposes, but at least they could make up a reason for it. Just because warcraft is like this they imported the flaw, instead of trying to improve it somehow.
Well, what's more important? Making it play well, or explaining every single balance technique in the game lore? Using a few non-essential buildings for walls isn't that bad. It's a strategy. The Supply Depots can even go up and down. This would explain why they are handy to use in this way. And it would be cheap *coughcoughMONEYMAPcough* if you could put your base center two inches from the minerals.
It's the fact that they can submerge that makes them valuable barriers. And it's not that they are more durable it's just a way to stall enemy forces (especially melee) to give the base defences more time. Like Graham said it woyld be kinda cheap if you could put them any closer. Besides is it really that big a deal? I mean it's not like they make you place it a mile away or something.
I don't find the use of building as shields stupid at all, they can't attack so they are not the same as regular base defences
they can't just get rid of the freedom of building wherever you want, that would change the game completly! building a barracks in the center of a ring of supply depos is purely strategy. As for building command centers next to minerals well...it just makes sense because in real life, you cant just build something directly next to a tree; it would topple over cuz of the roots. just a mechanic that makes the game more interesting.
At first I thought this was some kind of joke lol, but it looks like I was sadly mistaken. Um.. have you even played a standard game of Starcraft? Anyone who has actually played a game wouldn't be complaining about things like this. Here's your lore, if you makes you feel any better: - The ground where mineral fields lie cannot support the wieght of large structures. - The races don't have the resources to make structures serving only as walls. Therefore, other buildings are used to act as barriers. All better, stop crying now.
Not even that. Terrans wall a lot in fastest. He just plays lurker defense and naruto combat assshit.
At work, I have to find parking space, cross a street, and enter a door with a PIN number and a magentic card to enter my building to go to work. WTF can they not build my work over or closer to the parking spots? Darn building zones and limitations of a game.
1. that is strategy right there. and i mean GOOD strategy 2. you want minerals close to centers? play at fast map >_> otherwise its for balancing
