*Commander has just ordered you to retake the forward Xel Naga tower outside the Zerg main.* After a long 30 second journey you glance at the tower in the horizon to see 2 zerglings charging directly towards your position. You look up at the sky. Only 10/45 HP remaining! Do you A) Heroically attack/retreat backwards until the inevitable, in order to serve the greater cause B) Run back to the main base, despite the fact that the enemy zerglings will be be on your heels by then, & the rookie in the front-line siege tank has 2 confirmed kills, both of them earlier marine scouts. C) Fall to your knees and pray for instant teleportation by a stray medivac. D) Make a cowardly dash towards the closer but exposed northern base, currently unknown to the enemy E) Release yourself from this world & avoid the possibility of infestation with a final stim directly into the heart
B, cause even rookies generally target enemies... They have after all no friends and visit pubs alone during shore leaves, so they don't have anyone to support them in case they get cornered and beaten up by angry marines... Also, E is impossible at 10/45
That would be a good decision if you were at 45/45 hp or if there was another marine incoming to support. At 10/45 hp you won't manage to get a kill before the lings close in on you and get those 2 hits required to kill. So -A- is a bad decision in this case. Even if a marine is coming for support, it will come from the base, so retreat to there and use the new marine to play with the zerglings while the 10/45 one returns to support once they switch target. There's really pretty much only one right choice in this case and that's -B-...
F) Phone call a collegae marine, and demand him to run to the Xel'Naga Tower (stim if needed) and help you out ?
I'd get out of the chicken**** outfit or die trying. And yeah, as Terran, it's extremely annoying trying to get the watch tower(s) vs zerg early game. I try to get a hellion or two for this purpose, but lose that too thanks to bad control and awareness
