[comment] unit names

I have been thinking.
Yes, I do that from time to time. Today my thoughts went to the unit names in Starcraft. I noticed some disappointment emerging in my mind. What could it be? I was thinking of my favourite upcoming game, how bad could it possibly be?

Then it hit me. It could indeed be bad. Guardian? -meh- Changeling? -huh?- Twilight Archon? -what?- Void Ray? -weird- Roach?! -oh no- Morphalisk?! -!- Morphalisk!!?! -gtfo-

How could this happen? Are the minds of the Blizzard lore writers finally broken? I think they can do better then these names. Names are supposed to be usefull, yes. However, this unispired crap really seems wrong to me.

Maybe I am the only one who thinks this way, but if not: shall we discuss?
p.s. : Terran names are not mentiond by me since I think they are fine. Humans give human names to stuff, but not to aliens. What do you think?

I think the poll is a good idea. As for me, I think the Terran and the Protoss names are cool, but the Zerg are not"zergish"
Roach, Corrupter, Infester.. I think these aren't real names they just indicate the function of the unit. (Placeholders maybe? I don't know because it has been a long time since their name has changed..)

 

I think "Roach, Corrupter, and Infestor" are incredibly Zergish.

 

I don't know, you may be right.. Than it is just me I also don't have alternatives for the names..

 

Overall, I think Blizzard did a good job with the Terran units name.

Protoss and Zerg however have 1 unit that I truly dislike. Roaches and Stalkers. I mean, seriously?

Blizzard can think of something way better then that. Stalkers doesn't even sound ProtossLike. They should be called Dark Dragoons or something. And Roaches? Sounds way too gimmicky. Definitely needs a rename.

 

Well, the Stalker is also something that I thought about for quite a while. In essence, it is an unit that can sneak up, or stalk, another unit by using Blink. But again, this name is just to point out how the unit works. However: Tassadar, Zeratul, Raszagal, Reaver... all original. Blizzard can do better. Also:

The Changeling was supposed to be the name of the Larva that spawn of the Queen. You know, the ones that could morph into any unit in a matter of seconds. Even Ultralisks. But I think they changed that pretty quick. -placeholder- And you can choose multiple options in the poll, by the way.

 

I personally think that the Zerg unit name are quite bad in my opinion. Especially Changeling, Clint Eastwood will be pissed of when he hear this unit :laugh: I don't have any suggestion but Blizzard really need to consider and change their name before the release.

 

I think Clint Eastwood would be honored if anything.

 

Aur the changeling was spawned by the overseer and it changed into hostile units, not your own.

I like void ray there are a couple of names on my crap list but right now I can't be bothered to list and and/or discuss this matter. I will be back.

I hope he has an assasin within the Blizzard ranks then... Some of those names are way to bad.

But let's get back on topic. Maybe there is something about the Terrans to discuss: the Medivac Dropship. It sounds good in your head, but just say it out loud. Just say it once. It sounded pretty bad when I tried just now. I think Medivacs alone would do fine. Everyone knows what they are. Like you have medical evacuation bikes or something... And in a normal vehicle form they would just be an ambulance, or something lame like that.

 

Medivac sounds great to me because it's an actual word that I hear a lot

 

And Dropship is a word I disliked since I played Halo Hars. Crappy design of that Covanant piece of junk. Just an U-shape with a forcefield in between... --shivers--

They all sound too familiar for me now to want them changed.

Void ray and stalker grew on me. I remember hating those names, but im totally fine with it now.

Terrans...are fine....gw blizzard.

and Zerg need some changes, espeically the brood lord and the roach.

 

i suggest you can vote up to 3, anyways, why call it a roach? i mean, it dosn't look like a roach, it dosn't show the personality of a roach(does it?).. It should be given something more, from my opinion i liked it name Cyclorist or something close to that.
