Comic Winners Announced/Beta Tidbits!

Blizzard released its list of the month's Vespene Laughs comic winners today. I, personally, think this month's winners are by far the best I've seen so far. Kudos to the winners! Make sure to enter the contest if you think you've got the talent! Don't forget that beta keys are up for grabs!

Also, as an astute forum member has pointed out (TychusFindlay), Blizzard briefly mentioned the StarCraft 2 beta in their Q4 report, saying it was due "in the coming months" and that Blizzard expects a game release (I wonder which one) by the end of 2009. This is certainly exciting news for all StarCraft fans, although we've been hoping this was true for years, and while this tidbit is exciting, it's certainly not confirmation. Thanks to Tychus for the heads up.

Also, according to IGN citing the same article, Blizzard has claimed what amounts to a landslide in PC game sales, releasing information that indicates WoW outsold other games by a large margin, selling 6.8 million copies in 2008. That makes it the best-selling PC game of 2008 and it was only out for two months in 2008. Also, Blizzard stated that 1.8 million WoW accounts were created, bringing the total above 14 million subscribers. Congratulations Blizzard on expanding the empire.

Hahaha! I really like these. The first one took a bit for me to think it was funny (It's a thinker, I guess ) but the other ones were pretty instant. Good stuff!

...How is the first one a thinker? It's either quite obvious or I've made my own joke out of it somehow.

 

Itza is my number one pick of intelligent people on the board (sorry to drag ya down with my endorsement). I agree the winner is not a comic that requires complex thought. If you DO get it right away....then you know it's not really that funny. The art work is well beyond the last batch of vespene laugh winners at least.

The second comic has zero artistic merit as it's all screen shots. The joke is obvious and groan worthy too. If SC jokes were predominant; this one would be the raw brown **** coming out of a triteling. <Sarcasm> OMG! Everyone else burrowed! LOL... </Sarcasm> Bad comic. Terrible comic actually.

The third looks great and in one panel delivers a good punchline. The best submission to date. Kudos to that guy or girl. They should of had the gold medal by ALL means.

Blizz, you make great games...you sure as **** can't judge comedy or art. **** off it and bring SC2 that much closer to release.

 

"Thinker" means it takes a longer time for you to find it funny; not because it takes a lot of thought. I guess a better way to put it is that it has to grow on you. You have to think about what makes it funny and then it becomes funnier (Although, this makes it sound more complicated than it is). That doesn't mean it's too complex and you have to disseminate it's contents just to understand the joke or else you'll never "get it".

What is and isn't funny is a subjective opinion so, through Major Willy, we can see that it is.

 

I agree with Major Willy, the third was was the best out of them all in my opinion. The second was kinda bleh to me, while the first one got me to just chuckle a little.

 

i wish i had a more creative brain. lol i'd so try to get a beta key. but its hard enough for me to draw stickmen. but good stuff guys!

 

Hmm, Blizz page says the 3rd one listed here is the winner... or all they all considered 1st place winners? Either way the 3rd one here deserves to win anyway, just on artistic merit alone.
