How come blizzard still use animation for its in game cinematic and missions briefing ?..

Live action actors was what i liked in C&C3...

wouldnt the animations make the game size bigger than if they had film live action ?

Well lets just say it will be hard to find any zerg actor.. Anyway i like blizzards animation for briefings and cinematics, not to mention that they are so good at 3D modelling. I feel that getting live actors would destroy the feel of starcraft 2

Live actors were cool for C&C but I don't think they would fit here. Not to mention the makeup and costumes would be expensive. Plus how exactly do you do a Protoss warrior when they have 4 digits 2 of them opossable(thumbs) on their hands and be digigrade (walking on their toes [cats and dogs hind legs])?

Hehe yeah, but it would be cool if they got a zerg actor like a hydralisk ^^.
Well it wont just happen because if it did everyone would flame blizzard for copying C&C

Oh I really wouldn't want to see live actors in Starcraft, the cinematics and voice acting of SC were top notch and I'm sure they'll be just as great in SC2 and no amount of live actors can beat that.

I agree with the responses here. Having live actors is both unplausible and not befitting of the StarCraft theme.

I had a conversation with another member about this on another thread how Blizzard is trying to use the same format as in WC3 where part of the mission cinematics are actual units brought into the videos with high-quality renderings. So when you see Raynor in your interactive campaign mode he is technically a unit rather than a rendered movie. This is necessary to provide interaction with the characters.

They then successfully use this as a transition between the "movie" cinematics that we saw in SC1 and the user interfaces. A good example of this is when Raynor meets Zeratul on the Hyperion and Zeratul is wounded. This is still technially a "movie" cinematic, but it is effectively transitioned by using the same graphics as the user is going to see in the user interface.

Live action actors? Ummm again i agree that this isn't a very good idea as remember "what is in c and c stays in c and c" I must agree the live actors did add a slight advantage to an otherwise dissapointing game but still, THIS IS NOT C&C 3 IN SPACE" but i'll guess i'll add the option it to my in game cinematics poll.

Edit: Nevermind i will not add the option

Blizzard rendered Cinematics are always above anything else at their Time and they know it. No one renders them as beautifully as Blizzard does, i think they even developed their own software for their cinematics.

I think we all saw with the presentation of the campaign for the terran that we will not have real actors:). Also IMHO the cinematics will be based on the game engine (You saw the Thor cinematics going real inside the game... It was clearly using the 3D engine used to build starcraft 2). Anyway IMHO a big no for actors:)

I really liked the presentation of the storyline inside the SC briefing room. Now they will change that, and we'll see the characters talking to each others, in programmed scenes. Just see the video where we see Jim Raynor talking to the commander and the marine, inside a battlecruiser.

But a question disturbs me : if I want to create a map, and a briefing, how will i do if the briefing is not presented as it was in SC ?

I think it will be just like the old one, showing portraits talking, for example you can use raynors in game face in there with a marine and so on

I know one thing about the cinematics : Blizzard takes time to make them, to invent them, I'll watch them once, get happy, and then be disappointed because I've seen all the cinematics.

And have to wait 30 years until seeing the newest ones in SC3.

All Blizards Cinematics in All games, from warcraft2, Diablo1, SC1, D2, WC3, WoW are made at very high lvl of detail, efects and realism, I say this is better for us I prefer for a char (like Jim Reynor) to have the same voice then an actor looking like him from SC1 but sound difrent, and what about the Protos and zerg brifings ? CG actors or expensive but lame looking costiumes
