Just started playing this with my friend after wanting to "acully" learn how to play anyways really fun game due to probly being the best balanced game out there that requires real strategy.

I highly recomend anyone who wants to learn, learn the fundementals, basic elements, and move up from there.

Ugh. Been there, have my wall of fame boxed up, decided to move on. The more you know about the game the more you realise how much you suck, and the only way to change that is to devote your free time to practising and analysing, which I wasn't willing to do.

Fun every once in a while if you have an evenly matched opponent. But for me it's too repetetive and I lack foresight required for this. I'm decent at analyzing current situation, but I never have a plan for more than ~3 moves forward, so I play defensively.

Chess is a really fun game if you know how to play. I played on my high school team, its amazine how the timer can rush your moves.

Average time was 20min for each person, time decreased when it was your move, after your finished moving, you hit the timer and your opponent's time starts decreasing. Can get really crazy when you only have a few minutes left.

Always fun to try and play little mind games on your opponent.
    1. look at parts of the board where you dont plan to attack, that way your opponent thinks you might attack there instead
    2. try not to check the clock often, make your opponent feel that your comforable with the time left

I was ranked 7th on my team out of ~25 my senior year, which meant I was able to go to the state tournament, which I got a 3-4(win-loss) record

What state was this? Illinois, or some of the others you lived in?

Oh chess, isnt that one of those stupid games that require no skill? I hate those games - pure luck....

i played a simul against some school kids a while back ago, i won 19½-½. As I said ... pure luck.

Edit: I am the human proof of chess being luck, as I am probably in the top 15 junior players in my country.

If anyone wants a game im up to a fight:

    No luck.

You're just lacking in self esteem.

I used to be on a Chess team. I was first board (that's generally the highest board) out of our team of five, until this little kid joined who was OBSCENELY good. He beat me about 60% of the time, so he got first board and I got second. Which was fine with me, first board always got the tons of observers. Playing with the clock isn't interesting unless you get down to some weird **** at the end, which has only happened once to me at a competition... I only had a king and three pawns, he had a king and a queen... I ran his clock out by rapid-firing. We had ~20 seconds left each, and I just randomly moved and slammed the timer, which threw him off so much he couldn't plan anything. Good times... I'm always up for a game with anybody.

Ok so if everyone's on to it: I was the champion of my primary school for 2 years and had won several inter-school tournaments. We went there with our grammar teacher who was a really good guy and with who(m?) we practised in the afternoons after school. I don't know the number of medals I have because, as I said, they're boxed up, but my sole cup is on the TV with some keys in it :D

And I would not be up for a game. I've long stopped playing, and I wouldn't have the skills nor the patience. But I actually studied chess from English books, so I was pretty hard core back then :D

All of my skills are self taught. From watching games and playing them.

Cuba? What the hell? You're Danish.
