Being a lucky guy I am, I got into the beta test for SC2 about a week after opting in. Playing for 2 days now, I haven't had any trouble until today when I started to lose to a lot of Zerg players. First it was the baneling/zergling rush that I couldn't defend so I found out the solution of blocking the choke with factories/barracks and bunkers. Now, I have problems with defend the Muta harass. I usually go for MMM and by the time I set up my starport and start stacking 3 or 4 vikings, the enemy comes in with 6+ mutas which I can't defend. I've tried turrets which made me turtle too much wasting too much minerals. Not to mention it's hell trying to defend my expansion. Is it problem with my build order or me not scouting and building counter units enough?

You could try a thor or two. They deal splash damage; murder on mutalisks. (I fended off about five of them in my last game with one thor, although my opponent was kind of weak. And distracted by me killing his base with banshees.)

Thanks for all the replies. I'll definitely try the thor. However I successfully defended off the muta harass. It sure helps if I have a lot of marines. I was too focused on getting mauraders.

Vikings are terrible against mutas just get stim+shield for marines and use medivacs for support and eventually get thors, missile turrets are also now fairly effective against them

yeah, definitely marines worked the best since I can produce them fast, cheap and fairly early.

that`s the point of there getting the anti-air unit like marine as soon as possible if there is a muta

Stimpack for your marines, missile turrets at the mineral lines .. and two thors.. bring some SCV's with the thor to repair it as well! And make sure to stim marines and have mediv. to heal them!

Thanks for all the replies! I can now somewhat defend off the muta harass but the problem lies on how well I can hold off the baneling rush

sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but how do i "opt in" to the beta?

edit: disregard that, google was my friend :p

more on topic, i find marines good enuff to fend off mutalisks. just dont go too marauder heavy if u think the enemy is going to tech to mutas - keep scouting to check for spires if u can.

against baneling rush i've seen people do the wall off not with supply depots, but 2 barracks and a factory... seems to work quite well maybe give it a try.

I've already tried walling off with factories, barraks and bunkers... They either have enough banelings to just destroy or damage enough for zerglings to finish the buildings.....

is this early game? cos thats a lot of banes for early :O

u can try set up some siege tanks on the high ground near the buildings, a few might be able to kill some of the banelings b4 they get close enuff.

otherwise maybe get hellions with the pre-igniter upgrade, u can toast those zerglings if they get thru

around 5~7 min mark, I've been constantly being harassed by banelings... I'm naturally weak against Zerg :(

maybe try a wall off with the rax and factories, and just try get marauders and hellions with the infernal pre-igniter upgrade.

if you have lots of hellions, u'll be able to micro them away from zerglings without the speed upgrade and toast them fairly easily

Marines and missile turrets work really well against Mutas. Research +1 armor on your marines along with Stim packs and you'll easily dispatch the harass -- +1 armor helps a TON! :)

edit: I have a crap ton of trouble against banelings + speedlings as Terran as well, don't sweat it. Apparently the trick is to build a beefy wall. Siege tanks do one shot them afaik.
