I read somewhere that Immortals don't have an air attack, is that accurate? It doesn't make sense from a lore perspective at all. If Immortals are just highly upgraded Dragoons, then why would the anti-air abilities be removed?

    Anyways, thanks for your answers.

They would be removed for balance reasons. If they could attack air, they'd be practically unstoppable I guess. I, too, think it should attack air for the reason you mentioned plus the fact that it aims upwards in the animation. Having the Thor as an anti-air unit also justifies having the Immortal attack air.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed :)

Hmmm. What's the Protoss GTA unit than? I mean, Marines for Terran, Hydras for Zerg, what does the Toss have? Stalkers, maybe?

Edit: I mean for early game.

As far as I know, Stalkers CAN attack air units making them protoss' early anti-air. As I heard they have a fairly high damage too, so they are a considerable threat to aerial units.

Yes, but they have low hitpoints, which makes them vulnerable to anything, when they are in a small group, so you would always need support (maybe air) to use them effectively.
That is why the Immortal should attack air, but we will see

    500th post :)

If I remember correctly, they have 180 HP total, that's pretty decent. Not to mention ATG attacks are rarely strong.

We don't know if there will be strong ATG attacks. I just see the plasma torpedoes, the mothership, and the colossus right now... :)

That is one of the things I want in SC2. ATG attacks in SC were pathetic and made air units literally useless against ground. That should be a separate role of one of the Protoss ships, to have decent ATG damage. Hopefully, since Terran have the Banshee, Protoss will also have a ship with a good ATG attack.

That's likely what this new secret Protoss ship is. Sounds good to me.

The Predator was scrapped, and it had the "intercept mode" which destroyed hostile projectiles, making it good against static defenses. It almost worked like Disruption Webs, by stopping ranged attacks. So, maybe the new Protoss air unit is a new Corsair but with an AtG attack, also with an ability similar to the Disruption Webs which would further increase its AtG capabilies? The Motherships Time Bomb kinda overlaps with DW, so the MS could be the unit that gets pushed out of the build.

Let the Immortals attack air and have the Stalkers as GtG.

I think Immortals are useless against air because of their close range. Heck, just fly a bit off of the coast and immortals can't reach them. How pointless would that be? The stalkers' agility will help them chase down air units. Plus I heard they are at a moderate price, letting players get ten or fifteen of them. That'd be pretty good.

I think Stalkers will work well for GTA. Blink wuill be enormously helpful, plus they pack a decent punch. immortals would be nice, but whatever works.

I agree with ZeR[g]LiNg. Heck, I would not mind if the Stalker in some way was even better against air than ground, since the Immortal clearly is a counter to heavy damaging ground units like Siege Tanks and Banelings.

But Protoss are in the same situation as Terran on this one. The Terrans have no dedicated GtA until tier 3 (Thor). Early game, Protoss and Terran have to fight air with units that do the same damage against ground until they too get air.

Airborn units might be more crucial to have in SC2, as they are best countered by other air units. This will force players to tech to air before the opponent does.
Late tech units will probably be a lot more seen in SC2 than in SC1.

I thought the Thor is now built in factory and is tier 2? Or did I misinterpret the given information?

No, it's still built from the ground up, as far as I know.
