Hi, I just purchased the game last night and I can't seem to connect to battle.net. I have patched to the latest version successfully.

I set up an account online. Last night I tried to go on and after I entered my email address, either it would come up with a 'trying to connect' screen or I would get the password box. If I got the password box and entered my password the login box disappeared but nothing else popped up at all.

I still have the links down the right hand side to connect offline etc at all times. The offline button tells me that I need to authenticate my game by connecting which I can't do at this stage...

I tried this morning and it took me slightly further. After it prompted for my password it asked me to enter a name for my account which I did (the avatar box was empty though) and it then gave me a screen where I could click my name to login I suppose. This screen then disappeared and I was left in the same position with nothing else popping up.

Just wondering if this is fixable or due to the most recent patch. Does anyone know if the servers are down? I am in New Zealand so am connecting to the SEA server I believe.

Also I can't provide a tracert as i'm at work.

    Regards

Are you behind a router? If so, please read my FAQ and try forwarding all the ports listed. If you have tried that, you may be able to attempt the DNS setup steps in the question "Q. I am having an issue with the patcher, what do I do?"

Tracert may help also. Just post it after you get home.

I am behind a router and I did forward a couple of ports which I saw mentioned but all of them that you have listed. I can give this a go. I did read someone who mentioned that the Australia and New Zealand servers were having problems but wondering if anyone can possibly confirm this?

Yeah, you'd be in an Asian region.. so if Asian region was having issues, then maybe yeah. But I find that TCP 1119 is probably the key one for getting SC2 to connect to battle.net

Okay well I have definitely forwarded 1119 and 1120 on TCP, didn't do any others or UDP and no luck. Guess I'll just try when I get home and hope for the best. I emailed their support people but their support site is kinda buggy. Half the links don't actually work so it wasn't a whole lot of help. I understand they are under a lot of pressure so i'll give them some leeway.

I was hoping to hear more complaining if it was a wide spread issue, then it might give me some hope that i'm not alone.

Getting the right ports forwarded gets most people straight. Checkout the DNS forwarding if you issues loading ALL webpages. Changing your PC's DNS to match the one on the router... can really speed up website access, and in game access too.

Interesting suggestion using Googles DNS servers. I assume my ISPs servers will have a better response time though. Any way I'll try what is suggested and hope it works.

    Cheers.

I only really suggest Google's DNS because its easier to remember. You know your way around a router, so I would use your ISP's DNS.

Ah true. All good. Well i've also posted on the official forums at battle.net to see if anyone can help. I'll be home in 3 hours to try anyway so fingers crossed. Thanks for the ideas so far.
