WHat is the BO and how does it work? I am brand new and was wondering what this is after seeing people refer to it quite often. Thanks...
MMM is basically a shortcut for saying Marines, Marauders, and Medivacs. There isn't necessarily a specific build order for it, it's just focusing on those three units for your main unit composition.
normally about 1 or 2 medivacs, then more Marines than marauders. When in combat, make sure all your marines/marauders are firing at the appropriate units, marauders --> big stuff, marines --> air units / smaller units. that'll maximize your damage output i think...
MMM usually involves 3-5 Rax and 1 starport with a reactor. For maximum speed to reach the medivacs, get a reactor started on one of the Barracks as you build the Starport and then do the building swap. The MMM build is strong against most standard builds and can be used for a timing push. I think where the strength of the build lies is the fact that you can do drops on the mineral line. IMO, it is the most used Terran build out there due to the fact that it's so well rounded that it works in almost every situation. The only hard counters I can think of are cloaked units, banelings, ultralisks, collosus or siege tanks. All are relatively slow or immobile so that is why the mineral drop is so effective.
What is the building swap and why do it? Please let me know. I am a brand new player trying to get good. Thanks...
The unit-creating buildings of the Terran army can lift off. Basically they lift off the ground and can move around and then land again. Military Terran buildings can also create add-ons (Tech lab or reactor). The tech lab opens up new units for production when attached to the Barracks, Factory or Starport. The reactor allows you to produce two units as well (but not the units that require a tech lab). So basically what you do is build a barracks, create a reactor on it. Then, build your starport (requires a factory). Once the reactor and the starport are complete, lift off both the barracks with the attached reactor and the starport. You can then land the starport where the Barracks used to be and land the barracks somewhere else. This allows you to not waste time waiting for a reactor to build on the starport because the Barracks already built it. If it's too confusing, don't do it. It is not really needed for basic MMM, but it can make a difference if you plan to mineral line harass. This technique is also effective when you want fast dual hellions (same trick, except with a factory) or for fast banshees (now with a tech lab).
I believe a mineral drop is when you load up some units into a medievac and drop them behind your opponent's mineral line.
my MMM build consists of: 10 depot 12 rax (pump some marines for defense) 12 refinery 14 rax 14 refinery when i manage to get 16 workers on minerals, and saturate my gas, i whip out 2 more rax and a starport 2 rax with reactors and 2 with techlabs. pump and pump till you have finished your 2-3 medivacs. NOTE: when you build your 3rd and 4th rax with starport, try not to show your opponent as in while they are scouting. You don't want to show them your hand.
