Personally i dont like how they made the UED as a reason to add their new terran units in broodwar, but anyway-

FIRST, BEFORE ALL THE FLAMES: This is a theory... but it is entirely based on valid SC lore.
    (any inconsistencies/errors: Blame me.)
SC2 relevance: many have posted here in sc2forums that the UED may make a comeback.

    Moving on...>>>

UED TASK FORCE BETA: The Gathering.
We have known this faction since broodwar, and though their efforts have been futile, I have come to think that maybe (Just maybe) All that have transpired has been orchestrated.

First of all, Are we sure that admiral DuGalle could have really known the REAL objective/goal of his mission?
    Here are his orders:
    1. take control of the zerg by means of the psi distrupter
    2. pacify the protoss and terran by controlling the zerg

Now, this assures that The UED have known the zerg even before entering the disputed sector. Given that the zerg have been a migrating entity since it discovered the home world of the protoss, we all know that it only made a pitstop to the terran sectors to absorb the human psionic ability.

Now, does that raise QUESTIONS? Correct.

    QUESTION ONE:

The Zerg never saw the UED spying on them all this time... if they did, why didnt they detect the "aliens" probing them? you may argue that the zerg are already en route to aiur when all of this is happening- but again, there is no apparent human detection by the zerg prior to SC1. (zerg were even happy about their new "discovery" - beings with psionic potential: terrans.)

By this time the UED seemed to have gathered Zerg specimens already, because as broodwar states, the UED have already conducted experiments and even devised an effective (getting a perfect result is difficult the first time. I wouldnt bet my money on thinking that UED would send a taskforce that large to conduct an untested procedure) means to pacify a cerebrate and control it. Earthlings arent that reckless- especially with this huge amount of resources at stake.

Now you can imagine that The UED command at least a couple of star systems. Why? by this time, the earth would have completely exhausted all of its native resources- go figure. Also, the UED mentioned in SC lore, has been mentioned to have planets as outposts or in control of. They have spied on the zerg this way i believe.

How can a whole species-system not detect this? the zerg have been known for its destructive/assimilative trait- so how?

In a method i cannot describe, they have somehow managed to manipulate the zerg into what they will. Without the xel-naga for wisdom, the zerg relies entirely on the overmind for guidance. So if the overmind itself cannot perceive the UED probes, what can? (the zerg uncovered the protoss home world, didnt they?)

    QUESTION TWO:

We know that the UED (again) has been watching the disputes that are happening in the sector all the time, so why did in the beginning of the terran campaign in broodwar, the leader of the taskforce himself (DuGalle) only begin to move after the protoss obliterated some of the infested terran worlds? after the protoss homeland has been taken from their rightful owners?

this is very interesting indeed. if my theory is correct (to be mentioned later) this wold be the first contradiction. but, because what we know is limited, I have come to think that dugalle himself was still asleep (along with the others in the UED taskforce- they were still on their way). the breifing on transmat he gave to the magistrate should have been recorded just about a week or a day before the magistrate was awakened. (why was the magistrate awakened after them? ill explain later.) The real ones who were spying on all the action that took before that were OTHER UED SOURCES.

NOW, BACK TO DuGalle AND MY THEORY:
Seeing that were UED spies present even before the arrival of the taskforce, i have formulated this hypothesis:

    1. UED operates on a NEED-TO-KNOW basis operation.
like most totalitarian regimes (being a dictorate), this is the way to go especially if you have to sacrifice a lot. We all know DuGalle isnt the higest ranking UED officer, and that says it all.

    2. The Deep Sleep system is not as simple as it seems.
First, waken the highest ranking officer and his subordinates (DuGalle, Stukov, other essential initial crew)
Second, waken the higest ranking military commander (The magistrate)
    And everyone follows.

why? because there are some things that the UED cant risk accidentally briefing the person to. this is relevant because:

    3. DuGalle's defeat was in the UED's plan for the "greater good" in the first place.

NOTICE SAMIR DURAN? call me crazy but his infested form still has terran elements to it. SO, YOU SAY HE''S XEL-NAGA? C'mon, hear me out. (just another theory, remember?) is it possible that what he said to zeratul is just to mislead him? to mislead him so that he wont find out about the evil earthlings' diabolical plot to control all xel-naga creations? (remember the secret map?) this should explain why Dugalle passed him off as a confederate resistance fighter.

UED DELIBERATELY DEPLETED THE TASKFORCE SO THAT ALL ZERG AND PROTOSS WILL BE FURTHER EXPERIMENTED--- MORE SPECIMENS WERE GATHERED. THE NEXT ATTCK OF THE UED WILL BE A FATAL (and informed) BLOW.

    Dugalle didnt know.

THE ONLY WITNESS HAS GONE OFF, FINDING HYBRIDS THAT DOESNT EXIST.

    SAMIR IS EARTH'S AGENT.

    AND THEY'RE COMING.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

THE HAMMER IS GOING TO FALL---- BUT THIS TIME, ITS THE EARTHLINGS' TURN.

BTW: If this farfetched theory was correct, then the UED faction should have invisible units undetectable even by detectors.

    1) The UED had been watching the terrans in the Koprulu sector since they landed. The zerg didn't know where Auir was until after Zeratul and the overmind minds connected when zasz died. The zerg were lured to the sector by the confed to study but got attention of whole swarm. The UED did not have any physical samples prior to brood war, and if they are watching from lightyears away it would be impossible to detect. They manipulated the zerg with a combination of drugs and psychics.

    2) UED only cares about Earth (and any nearby colonies) so like the Confed they were content to sacrifice some colonies to learn about the enemy. it would take a awhile to get there once they decided to move.

    3) You forget that he has been deceiving Kerrigan too. The Xel'naga (and their hybrids) are coming. The UED won't be back.

Yeah I support capthavic on that they did observed the Koprulu sector for sometime now.
Lucky I'm no UED fan but a Dominion fan and I would be too lazy to write all their details and theory out.whats can I say,all can be easily found in startcraft wiki.

What I am most interested in is how they found the Koprulu sector Terrans since they got there de to a system malfunction. Not only were they way off course but they were WAY past the range they were meant to go.

I liked the part where he says Samir Druan is an Earth agent, its might be a likely fact but he just sound so cute and naive with the capital letters.

Here are some possibilities if my theory is correct: (still, i am not promoting this view as what i believe to be true- just a possibility.)

    Answer to 2:
That is what WE, THE PLAYERS were led to believe that their only objective is what you stated. This is however, understandable since we play the taskforce' role in the campaign. I stated in this theory that if Admiral Dugalle himself wasnt given full knowledge of the mission's goals (because they were meant to be a sacrifice), then the game is not supposed to tell that until SC2, or whenever this revelation may be needed. It will completely destroy the storytelling. <I have been inclined to believe this because of the UED's previous knowledge of the zerg prior to SC1.>

    Answer to 3:
This is maybe because kerrigan is just one of the many gullible pawns in the UED's chessboard. In order for the plan to be sucessfully completed, they had to befriend the zerg too- with an undercover, of course. This may also be the reason kerrigan have hidden in her planet char for so long... frustrated because one day, she found out Duran's real affiliation, so she began looking for new ways to counter (or even delay) the IMPENDING DOOM.

If the UED studied the zerg before any of the game's plot began- undetected (as ive said before), then the capacity of them using such a devious means is not that surprising.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    IN CONCLUSION:

The Terrans are still disputing about their petty quarrels,

The Protoss are still occupied with reclaiming their home land,

KERRIGAN IS THE ONLY ONE PREPARING FOR THE INVASION.

100 minerals says the UED doesn't return in SC2. And even if they do return it will only be in a minor way.

    @drafter
    thanks

Anyway to whom it may concern>>>>
    >>dont get confused by the way i used the word. i only put "educated" there not because i am claiming i know (or even have a clue) what will happen; but because it is inseperable with the word "guess" in the defenition of Hypothesis- cause that what it is: an "educated guess".

I'm going to tell you this very bluntly, the UED are not coming back in a larger capacity, they are as stated coming back with an unknown, but lesser, impact on the Koprulu Sector. I basically killed the other UED thread and I feel bad for it so I will try not to be so severing in this one.

First, you have given the UED far too much credit. The only one capable of this plan would be and I state would be if it were even possible Stukov or Doran Routhe.

Now, for Duran he has been in the sector for a vast amount of time predating back to the time when the Confederacy was still together. As one of the most avid Duran fans on here I can say for a fact Duran is not from Earth. All evidence points far, far, from it. We have come up with a strong theory on him, but, there is not enough solid evidence at the time to make a strong and solid guess. Duran overall is very much a key player in the effect the UED has on the Koprulu Sector as the UED were advised by Duran into become a self-destructive power by the end of Brood Wars. Thus was the same with Kerrigan.

Now then to continue on yes, the UED do have colonies and other galaxies in control. What they don't have is a colony close to the Koprulu Sector Pre-Brood War. I can say this as the UED Fleet was 1. an Expeditionary Fleet and 2. Had just waken up from suspended animation as no Military force in any capacity could reach there alive thus showing the Koprulu Sectors distance from Earth. At the end of Brood War and in SC:Ghost (although not sure how much of Ghost they are keeping with in SC2.) The UED was seen with a secret base somewhere in the Sector.

Now, to asses the reasonable idea as to how the UPL(United Power Leagues.) had been watching the Terrans of the Sector I believe the Answer can be found in Doran Routhe and ATLAS. A computer AI that made the Terran Prisoners from Earth crash. I believe and this is but a theory that when ATLAS was reactivated by the Terran of Tarsonis it began to monitor them. It was through this the UPL learned of the Zerg publicly( As I think Duran is involved at one point there.) and
formed the UED(United Earth Dictorate.) which would create the UED Expeditionary force and thus send into action the Fleet.

Going on the UED may have had an alternate motive, but, they would not send a fleet to gauge and capture Zerg as that would one be a waste of resources and the UED actually has stated the reason as to why they sent the group.

I'll quote from StarcraftWiki for this.

"The new Council took action. An Expeditionary Force led by their greatest military leader, Admiral DuGalle, was assembled. Admiral DuGalle was given three main objectives when he would arrive:

    * Take control of the Terran Dominion and all of its outlying colonies
    * Take control of the Zerg Swarm by taming the new Zerg Overmind
    * Use the Zerg Broods to pacify Protoss activity in the Sector "

Now, the main goal had been to make the Protoss in the sector become pacified. Which, seems a bit odd. I think the UED may have had something in mind for the Protoss, but, the Zerg no. The Zerg are far too and even when they had taken control of the Overmind when it was killed Kerrigan took control. If Kerrigan had not taken control the Whole of the Zerg Swarm would have turned into locust.

Now, one final thing. Even if it had been preplanned many times over the UED/UPL could not have predicted the outcome of the UED in the Sector. Thus, if they planned to send a force once that one was overpowered it simply would not get there in time for SC2 and the original force left at the time right before we come in at the beginning of SC1.

    End Transmission....
    Begin New Transmission....
Welcome to the Forums. Hope you have fun and don't take this as an attack as I enjoyed your theory, but, as such I need to help you clear it up. Plus, your theory holds the same weight as mine does so I like it and respect it.

    Interesting theory...

but i remember hearing them say that their will be no new race/speices in the game... so i believe more that we might see the UED than a hybrid race.. since a hybrid race would be considered a new race.

I think by race they mean a PLAYABLE race, it has already been speculated that the hybrids is only to be a extremely powerful npc race like the demons in wc3. You can only have them in a custom map from the map editor or some special map in the campaign, who knows
