I only have 1 GB of Ram for my Windows Vista and I want to buy more so I can run Starcraft 2 better. I don't know alot about computers so can someone recommend a place where you can buy RAM cheaply for Windows Vista?
The operating system doesn't dictate the type of RAM you buy. Do you happen to know the make/model of your computer or motherboard?
Back to the topic on hand. With you only have 1gb I am worried about how old your PC is. Im going to hope you are use at least DDR2 so at the very least id say G.skill is decent RAM and competitively priced if you wanna throw a few more bucks down Id say grab some OCZ (Platinum or Reaper) or mushkin.
Woda, I hope this makes Jasmine's post clear. If it doesn't, then get off the internet, like, now. To the people who run Vista on 1GB... what the hell? The minimum recommended amount really does seem to be 2GB, lol. Not sure how you even managed to install Vista like that. Either way, your computer as a whole probably isn't nearly good enough to run SC2 properly. Even the cheaper models with poor CPU's and GPU's usually have more RAM then what you just described. So all in all: get a new rig.
Woda, don't do that. It's called a joke. As far as retailers go, check out Newegg, and get one of their sale sets.
My posts don't seem to be working in this topic. Maybe it's because I added a hypertext link so I'll try again without one. Go to Crucial.com and download the system scanner which will tell you the type of RAM you need. If you have a desktop PC rather than a laptop you should be able to cheaply upgrade to 4GB's. When you install the RAM memory sticks put them in the right way around and make sure they are seated flush and clicked into place.
Yes, I would even go and buy a 2GB chip and have a total of 3GB's... post a dxdiag and we can get a much better idea of what your system can do (including the motherboard's model). To run dxdiag=> Windows_logo_key+r, dxdiag. If you have 64-bit windows, click the button at the button that says "Run 64-bit DxDiag," Then save all the data by clicking "Save All Information..." zip/rar the text file and attach it to the post. Instructions on how to zip here. To create a rar file, first download and install winRAR then read this guide here.
Depends on the motherboard and if it can support duel channel too. If you have a choice to start and one chip, take more over less+dual channel. I've always prioritized reducing hard drive thrashing over pure RAM performance. Then again, my method of building machines is always stability over RAW performance. This guy doesn't appear to be in a situation to purchase 2 sticks and remove his existing RAM. This isn't the dark days of ram... memory controllers are so much better then they used to be.
