What if races could actually build a ramp from one level of terrain to another?

I know that this would seem to make the cliff climbers useless in jumping up levels... so to counter that, the ramp would take a considerable amount of resources and time to build It would also have later game requirements like the carriers and battle cruisers from SC1

secondly, these constructed ramps can be used by enemies or destroyed by them, so building a ramp that gets you up to the enemy's terrain level may not be a good idea because the enemy may overwhelm you and in effect all you did was give him a ramp down. Or say an enemy wants no ramp at all... it can be destroyed

This would open up all new gameplay strategies

And the cliff climbers still have their value:
They do not cost much to build
reapers and stalkers can jump/blink over voids in a space platform map
The ramp can be destroyed while cliff climbers always have their ability
The ramp must be built by SCVs and takes a long time

The ramp has its value too:
It allows non cliff climbers to go up terrain (I say Thors cannot go up it)
    It is faster than dropships
It can get you into areas that you could not because of enemy control of the only existing ramp

why would i spend all that time a resources for something that could just be destroyed in the next assault when i could just as easily build a dropship/shuttle/overlord and carry them up?

colossi cost twice as much as reavers did when they were still in. if reavers cost the same as SC1, thats 400/400

I dont know, i mean they implemented the power for some units to scale cliffs so we could use it, it in itself gives an edge in gameplay. There are ramps in certain areas in the game so thats where we get to use em. I just think its an uncessesary luxury. Do we really need this? If it can be destroyed why bother wasting the time and ressources when you could just get colossi to go torch the base, followed by shuttling the rest of your troops.

Thats just my opinion though but cool idea anyway

    ughh you guys

i threw in the ideas of costing a lot, being late game and taking long to build because i figured that it would make cliff climbers useless if it was cheap and fast to build... dont focus on those details but just the idea in general of having the ability to build and destroy ramps

alright dropships and overlords can only carry a small group of units at a time and they can be shot out of the sky a ramp allows faster

and when i talked about the cliff climbers i was thinking more about reapers and stalkers

I like the ramp Idea, but I think It would be bettel if for example scvs would transport the ramp to the location, so the enemy would have chance to detect the plan and send defensive units where needed

    define starcraft style

levels of terrain and ramps go hand in hand
there are ramps already in place on the maps

i think a manmade, or should i also say alienmade, ramps show the ability of races to adapt just as much as the cliff climbers

    Good point.
How would they be built? I can't imagine a drone building a ramp. ::)

yeah i thought of that too i was thinking more protoss or just terran and with an SCV

i think it would work but i guess most people think it just isnt necessary with dropships and phase prisms

i just thought it would be an interesting ability,

Well it is an interesting ability. But it isn't necessary. Nice idea though.

I think it would remind me too much of CC. I feel SC2 should really stand out there on its own.

this is too much C&C. This reminds me of blowing up bridges and repairing them with engineers.

I think Blizzard could adapt it good to the game, but I prefer using dropships, and phase prisms:)
