These are some of the computer setups I put together for my younger brother who wants to play sc2. The prices are from www.CanadaComputers.com We can probably shave off $20-$50 bucks off if we shop around here and there or look for Rebates, but will be buying mainly from here. I will be supplying the Video Card which is not the best and is a XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT. I put together rigs which are around 350-400 anything above, my brother has no money for. He is not concerned with playing super high settings, mid settings is good enough but low is too low. OS will be Win XP Pro and the mobos I chose are priced farely cheaper vs the 4dimm mobos. Are there any tweaks you would make to this setup? and what Processor would you get?

3 of the Rigs all contain

    Kingston 2gb Ram(memory) - $58.99
    500 GB Hardrive(HDD) - $46.99
    CoolerMaster Elite 310 Case - $44.99
    CoolerMaster Power Supply 500W $45.99

    1)DualCore 2.8Ghz Rig - $341

    2)i3 Dualcore 2.93ghz Rig - $415

Quad's out (if building for StarCraft). The i3-530 build requires DDR3. I don't think I saw a graphics card in any of the builds. A discrete GPU is essential if you want to play at medium or higher. Currently, there are no integrated GPU solutions available that can deliver that level of performance.

Another thing, at that budget, AMD offers better value. I would suggest something along the lines of 760G+Athlon II X2. For the graphics card, HD 4670, HD 4770, HD 5570 or HD 5670 depending on price and availability.

Nvm, didn't read about the 8600GT. If so, Core i3 is the best option. Just need to change the RAM to DDR3.

Yeah, you have motherboards will built in Intel GMA graphics, and they will not cut it. You need to look into video card options... I mean, you even have a power supply that would suggest you are looking for discrete graphics.

Nah. Higher-clocked dual is better for SC2 than lower-clocked quad.

There's actually Newegg in Canada. Prices don't seem to be as good, though.
