Aw, so I'll have to get the expansion to play on Bnet then because everybody else will have the new units? Lame!

"Vanilla" SC2 would most likely still work

Thanks for posting it although youre not the first one but hey...
The fact that it will work doesnt mean that its going to be playable. You seriously cant expect people to not buy it if majority already has. I am interesting in what the (korean) pro-gaming scene will make of this and how will they react to these two relatively quick expansions but mabye I just underestimate the speed at which they can re-settle with new units and tactics.
Its kind of a compensation for not introducing any subscriptions of any sort, but instead we'll Have to buy the game three times over. I am sure it will be worth it though.

I felt a little relieved when Browder admitted that adding new units is not easy, and that the potential for new units to ruin game balance is something they're already talking about.

Yes! Finally, some interesting missions! I think Browder really made my day when he said they wouldn't just do "here's your force, go" kind of missions. I didn't like those.

I don't think the expansions will be a problem to play with. There would only be two or three new units per expansions, if any. Since we still get the full game with Wings of Liberty people won't have that much of a problem.

    Definitely.

Browder worked on CnC: Red Alert 2 and CnC: Generals, so he knows first-hand just how out of whack balance can get when you start adding in tons of new units. His work with CnC also means he knows how unimaginative skirmish-style missions are. If you want to play a skirmish, then you load a skirmish. Single player should be more about story and really amazing gameplay mechanics.

Another thing that really has me feeling good is that they're aware of the "pro-factor" and how getting totally destroyed in multiplayer can keep newbies from coming back. Look at what happened to the Quake scene. There's no tools to teach you advanced techniques and no path to match up against players of your skill level. Like Starcraft, Quake 3 is about 10 years old so you step in and get wrecked by people who've been playing every day since release. The Quake scene (which I have a lot of respect for btw) has virtually no influx of new players as a result. I, for one, am really glad that they're developing methods for new players to get into the game without being overwhelmed.

A little off topic but -

GZero, welcome to the forums. However, it is against forum rules to quote the person who posted directly before you. Just letting you know!

....i predict expansion 2 to be released in 2020, followed by expansion 3 in 2030

    Starcraft 3 2040

er in seriousness they said hopefully 1 every year, so protoss would be out in 2012, but eh...idk... i see 1.5 to 2 years but then again maybe 1 year is realistic

There seems to be a whole lot of people that are upset about buying the next two games or are fearful that any new units introduced will cause imbalance issues due to a short development period.

If you don't like the idea of expansions that add units and further the story, you must be pissed about BroodWar.

If you are worried that the expansions will break the game unless they are released multiple years after the vanilla SC2 then you must of never even heard of Brood War.
