Bring back the scourge.

Discussion in 'Zerg' started by InfantryAdvocate, Jul 14, 2008.

  1. The scourge was the answer to the carrier, and cruiser problem. So what happen to it? The scourge was a staple in the zerg arsenal and taking it away just takes away a good zerg strategy against air units.

The Scourge was essential to the Zerg air force in the original Starcraft and I liked it a lot.

However, I'd like to see Starcraft II do something much different, especially now that we have a ground scourge of sorts - the Baneling. I am a big fan of the Corruptor, and I'd like to see it continue to play a major role for Zerg anti-air. I think that between that and the Mutalisk, Blizzard can do fine.

Welcome to the forums, by the way.

As fun as it was, I'm sure with the Corruptor Zerg are fine.

Besides, losing your Carrier and then having it fight you is worse than seeing it blown out of the sky.

I'm with Willy on this one. I'm sure an enemy player would be pissed to see the group of Carriers they had spent hard earned resources on start firing Glave Wurms back at them. ;)

I never used the scourge in any kind of game. Ever. I don't like them, they wasted too much gas and for what, 110 damage to commit suicide? Didn't even have splash damage and they were so weak.

    They're air Zerglings.

110 damage is damn high without using an ability.
No splash was fine with me, and they were spawned in 2's so of course they have drawbacks.

Being weak was fixed with making enough of them to get by.

The scourge... Those tiny balls of explosive acidy goodness.

As fun as they were I think blizzard need to steer clear of them to continue the evolution of the game. In my opinion they have enough of the original units already and should stick to crazy new ideas like the corruptor. :)

why would the zerg get rid of their air martyr, but gain a new ground one? it does not make sense. THey should keep it logical, where the zerg has a center number of mutations and evolutions, and the baneling was an evolution that was like the scourge. plus, as the reports have said, (sorry i didn't put links for them) the zerg are an extremely weak AtA race currently, and the swarm guardian is the only good air unit and it attas AtG only. i love and embrace change, but the removal of scourge is a bad change as it was a strong AA and a great scout.

    P.S. i also wan't the reaver back  :D

I am glad the Scourge is gone, The Corruptor is much more interesting.

i love my kamikaze's, i just hope that they will be in the map editor, like Blizz. said they would do. but i think the Corruptor is nice as well, why blow up the ship when you can make the ship fight for you? ill tell you:

its economics my dear Watson. its just tha... uh? no-one has the name of Watson? then who am i talking to? *whisper, whisper* ah im talking to kerrigan, ok!,

    wait a minute...
    oh sh!t...
    I LOVE YOU SARGE!!!
    *screams till death*

sorry about that, one of my fav. scene from SC.

anyway, the Scourges was the Zergs solution to anything in the air that was flying at you. Blizz. didnt want that so they made it a ground unit.

Scourge was most effectives against transport and Vessels, 2 hit kills was good. But I still agree, the corruptor is a unit I loved since it appeared. I'm just scared it will be underused juste like valkiry and devourer.

It most probably won't happen if air is more present in SC2. We can but wait for those answers.

When a Corruptor dies a 'Scourgling' should be produced.

Or maybe corrupted units shouldn't shoot glave wurms but instead try to crash into nearby air units (would work like a Scourge, basically) :)

I believe the scourge is a critical part of the zerg military and without it the zerg will have a serious lack of air units with the devourer also having been removed

You're only taking removed units into account, how about the one that has been added?

Hey maybe they should make an air unit similiar to a zergling meaning it has the same hp and attack damage. Maybe call it a clinger. It clings to to Large units and scratches at them.

I don't like the idea, maybe it should tear at electronics slowing the ship down like a devourers acid?

Well if everyone is so much distressed of missing the scourge, my idea would be for it to have an upgrade skill in mid or late tier to enable it to have a jump skill aka

"Leap attack!" - summons all of the banelings gravity force to put all its strenght into one suicidal air leap, if the baneling misses its target while leaping it still explodes on the ground. (range 6)
