Nip all the big cheat developers in the bud. Hopefully it works out for blizz but i don't see them taking every group to court, this would more be a warning to everybody else.

This game lives or dies to hackers, blizz has gained alot of tech and money since the original SC so i'm not surprised they are coming down hard already.

The one redeeming quality of Activision Blizzard. The ability and desire to sue people to hell.

I agree with you Marinefreak, Blizzard is getting hard on these guys' asses because SC2 is dependent on it multiplayer diversity and fun. Hacks completely destroy any semblance to either of those qualities that we oh so much love SC for.

I do however think that they will take to court any hackers they find making a profit off of hax as they are not only stealing their money from blizzards content but also stealing the game from the community.

    Hell, it's about time =D

Instead of practicing hard and watching replays these guys chose to cheat in order to win. Glad to know that Blizzard are serious about safeguarding their customers. I hope this will send a message to all hackers that what goes around comes around = /

They should go the smart route and just hire a couple of Hitmen to take em out. It would probably end up being cheaper than a bunch of sketchy lawyers, and God knows Activision does anything for a couple of bucks.

While I certainly applaud Activision/Blizzard taking action against them, the legal reason seems mildly silly. Copywrite infringement because it copies more into RAM than it's supposed to?

Yeah, while I certainly don't mind seeing hackers get what they deserve, I can't say I applaud what is going on here because I'm against the laws involved.

It may seem silly, but that's the law. I took a copyright course in law school years ago and it is really ridiculous how far things have been stretched. But yeah, making unauthorized copies is copyright infringement, and that includes the information your computer copies between hard copy and memory.

Personally I'd like to see a major overhaul of copyright law. The only reason we have it was the presumption that if artists/creators didn't have a monopoly on their work for a limited duration they wouldn't be able to capitalize on it, and there would be no incentive to create. But that basic idea has become so warped (for example, that limited duration is not so limited anymore) and in today's world I think it is even questionable if the underlying premise is true. Artists and industry has had to adapt, but the vast amount of copyright infringement that goes on in say the music industry has hardly led to a derth of available new music and new artists.

This entire thing is a publicity stunt. Blizzard is suing these individuals in a US court meaning (since they are not U.S. citizens) they will never be required to appear. The case will never move forward.

It's basically a huge publicity stunt. Blizzard is positioning themselves to threaten anyone in the U.S. who would attempt a similar stunt and they will never have to prove a thing.

BTW even if these users were in the U.S. Blizzard would have a ridiculously hard task of proving destructive intent.

    @Joneagle:

If you're speaking generally, without specific knowledge of the case/individuals/laws of the countries they are from, then that is not strictly true.

You can bring an action and obtain a judgement in a US court against a foreign national without them personally appearing.

You can also get that US judgement enforced abroad.

It all depends on the case specifics and laws of the country where they are domiciled.

Also, I don't know why you think "destructive intent" is important.

I just can not understand why people would play the game with a hack, I am not justifying and I think it is completely wrong and annoying, but I can see how hackers would challenge each other and gain a thrill from that but sitting there with a hack on your game is a complete waste of time, why not just get good? (although I have been trying lol).

I just think it is all crazy!!
