Battlefield 1943 is a new battlefield game that goes back to the old WWII setting, but this time does it with the frostbite engine (same engine as bad company) and in the form of a budget game. The game has a $15 price tag and is being released in June 2009 (this month, but no specific date yet) on the Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network. A PC version is scheduled to come out in September as a $15 download. It actually has quite a bit of content for a $15 price point. - Set in the Pacific Theatre with the Japanese Imperial Army vs. the United States Marines. - 3 classes per side: * Rifleman: The infantry combat specialist, gets a semi auto rifle, bayonet, rifle grenade, and hand grenades. * Infantry: Combines the Anti-Armor and Mechanic roles, gets an SMG, bazooka, repair wrench, and hand grenades. * Scout: Combines the sniper and specialist roles, gets a sniper rifle, pistol, bayonet, and explosives. Oh, and the Japanese scout gets a katana instead of a bayonet. - Plenty of vehicular combat including fighter planes, tanks, jeeps, landing craft, and various types of gun emplacements. - Max of 24 players per match. - Conquest mode only, with 5 capture points per map. - 3 Standard maps, Wake Island, Iwo Jima, and Guadalcanal. - 1 Unlockable map, Coral Reef, which will be unlocked after 43,000 online kills are tallied across the entire community, and focuses mostly on fighter plane combat with enough planes that each player can have one. - Has stat tracking and a leveling system, but no unlockables. - Health regenerates outside of combat. - Each map has a strategic location where players can call in a squad of bombers, the player calling them in can control the bomber squad directly and must aim the bombing run using a bomb bay door view. The bombers are quite powerful but can be shot down by enemy fighters or AA guns before they get close enough to drop their bombs. - Since it uses the frostbite engine, the levels will have the same level of destructible environments as Bad Company, meaning tanks can plow through light forests fences easily, and explosives can be used to create new entry points in enemy fortifications or just to cause wanton destruction. I'm wondering though how much content might be added in addons and such, they could potentially add new maps (with new vehicles), new weapons, a new class, or even new gameplay modes. They could increase the amount of content and give it more replay value for those willing to spend more than $15 on the game, while keeping the people who don't want to pay more happy as long as they don't give people with the addons an unfair advantage.
Sexy, Thanks for the post man! I'd definatly get this game, I been wanting a good battleField WW2 style game, I have the BF1945 edition that came out years ago, and even that is still fun
Sounds great. An automatic health regeneration system is definitely a welcome for this series. I hope there will be a variety of weapon packs like BF 2040 or BF 2. I love using those alternative weapons.
Cool, but I think I'll stick to Red Orchestra, especially since Red Orchestra 2 is under development. When it comes to WWII games, I like sticking to insane realism.
