If your running Vista, you need to run it as an admin (Right click, Run as Administrator), if not, it's your firewall.

Add an exception to your firewall then try it again.  Usually the first time you run an internet program the firewall should prompt you if you want to block or allow if not you will have to go into settings and find "add a firewall exception"  Then search for your program.

If that doesn't help tell me your OS, firewall and router information

And your IP address <.< >.>

JK, don't do that. But if you need a walkthrough on how to make the exception, just tell us the brand.

If you have anti-virus software it probably comes with firewall software if not you are probably using windows firewall. If you do have a separate firewall program along with windows firewall make sure only one is on as sometimes they will interfere with one another

I am the admin so I wouldn't know how that worked but I was under the impression that even if you set a program to run as admin from the admin accout you still have to enter the admin password from th non admin account.

XP games don't require admin rights so you will need to check the firewall

OK.... I guess it's finally time for me to jump in on this thread....

If you've checked your firewall..... (If you didn't DISABLE IT ENTIRELY and see if it runs. If it does, then you can add an exception so it doesn't affect it in the future)

The next most likely candidate is a corrupted ws2_32.dll file. This is your Winsock 2.0 file that allows you to register software patches with companies like Blizzard.

You might try updating other software and see if that gives you similar errors. Could be an indicator.

Anyway, open your Starcraft directory and look at the text file "bnupdate.log." You should see a list of patches and if it doesn't say "RESULT: Patch Successful" on the latest patch, then your file is most likely corrupted.

@ ImaGiNe , a router wouldn't cause a problem like this. You just can't host games because the correct ports aren't relaying.

The ONLY OTHER cause of this problem I can see is if you're behind a school network like at a University.

Let us know what you find. ;)

By the way, the only fix I know for this problem is to reinstall windows. Sorry. :-\ There are fix-it programs, but they often don't result in a 100% fix.

Admin rights aren't needed on XP. You need to check the firewall

    BirdofPrey is absolutely right.

I'm VERY confident that's not your problem. :D

While i probally dont know as much as the others helping i do know the wow downloader requires admin privlidges on xp. So there is a chance the starcraft one does as well. (The only reason i cant give a 100% answer on this is i havnt tried using a non admin account in a really long time)
