I've owned the game of Starcraft for about 6 years now. In that time I have never logged unto battle.net because I couldn't win a game without cheating. In the past few months I stopped cheating in my games and I have decided to hop unto battle.net to play against humans rather then AIs. My current problem is that it won't let me unto battle.net. Every time I say to log unto any of the servers it says that it can't identify my version. I surfed around the internet and found out that I was behind in my patches. So I patched it, still can't identify my version. So then I followed the advise to reinstall, still says the same thing. I know my cd key is legal as it's the one my friend gave me it when I bought his copy from him. I even registered it with Blizzard on battle.net and everything was okay. Just in case it was the cd I even downloaded that copy you can download once you registered. I just can't seem t get on. Am I doing something wrong? Am I using an illegal key and just don't realize it? Can some one please help me?
I'm running Starcraft Brood War Version 1.16.1 Also I've tried battle.net before any patches were done. Should I just buy a new cd key? There's a site that claims for $8 they'll give you three legal Starcraft cd keys.
You should never buy keys from ANY site or shop that isn't Blizzard. That would be silly. Only Blizzard can give you legit keys. Besides, other sites would lose money on it when selling 3 keys -worth: 60 dollars- for just 8 dollars. Pretty obvious that those siter are fake, eh? You can buy the battlechest on amazon for $19,99. Which is not that much for the game and the expansion. And you get a NEW key that always works. Also, please use the link on this site when buying on amazon. Then we gain money to support the community. -And with that, we can help people like you.-
If you registered a key at the Battle.net/Blizzard site, your CD KEY is authentic. Please take a look at the Blizzard Support article located over at http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20846&searchQuery=version&pageNumber=1. Let me know if that helps.
Thank you guys for your help, the only thing I can figure out that is wrong is that my starcraft files are altered in some way. When I bought these games from my friend Brent, I bought his burned copy of starcraft with a legal copy of brood war and a legal cd key. Blizzard, after three days, finally got in touch with me and told me that if I own a copy of starcraft the files may not of been copied right so battle.net can't figure out what my version is. So my choices are just regular lan games, buy a legal copy of the original starcraft, or wait to experience battle.net until SC2 comes out.
You might want to perform a virus scan just in case, as it could be a virus affecting your StarCraft files.
Okay I did a full deep scan using Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. All it found was a tracking cookie, I tried it again and same thing. So either Zone Alarm is missing it. Or I was stupid to pay $8 for these cds when I should of just bought a new one for $20 in the store.
