there's a question about this around 9 min in the interview, he doesnt say no, so they are definately considering slapping a cost on battle.net.

    That would SUCK SO MUCH!

I might not even play battle.net...just buy the game, and play it lan or something, RTS battle.net thats payed monthly is really unacceptable...

blizzard wouldn't do that to us. They just wouldn't. Blizzard knows better then to slam its fans with extra bills.

I see no reason why blizz would do that, they already got a 300 ton gorilla robbing people of their cash every month (WOW) i just see no reason they would slap a fee on b.net.

That would be suicide because any money they made off of it would be lost due to low game sales. Besides they don't need it most RTS games are run client side. The only thing Batt;e Net does is provide a medium with wich to use to find other computers to connect to once the game has started the strain rests soley on the players computers unti the game is over and stats are transmitted to the Battle Net servers.

I know, it would suck. I really dont think the SC2 community will allow it.

The monthly fee is perhaps the biggest turn off to WoW. Doing that to SCII would just kill it. Pros would just lan with friends of equal skill. Those of us bound to B.Net would get frustrated after a month and quit. Seriously, why do people still play WCIII and SC? Its free!

If it came down to it, do it for your fans Blizzard! It's one of those small things that make you so great.
That, and you owe us for canceling SC: Ghost.

I'd rather them just haveus pay once. The only upside, and I mean the only upside to a monthly fee would be a drastic reduction in hacking and general stupidity as Blizzard would be forced to pay attention to it. But once again, I would also go to LAN games rather than play online.

Blizzard charges a fee for WoW because they can't afford to run the servers and constant updates with out it. Battle.net is much, much simpler and easier to maintain. Blizzard can tell the difference between an MMO a game that happens to have multiplayer, they just make that statement to keep themselves covered in the freak scenario where it costs them prohibitive amounts of money to keep Battle.net up.

Blizzard has a habit of trying to avoid saying anything unless they can be sure they are 100% and even then they almost always seem to have a disclaimer nearby. I think that's the case here. I would guess there wont be a fee but blizzard (i would guess) would rather say nothing than saying something and end up being wrong. (especially with something like this where if they said there wouldn't be a fee and there was one it would create a ton of bad publicity on top of the outcry against the fee itself)

I agree. I don't see a reason why they would need a fee in the first place. They should have such a pool of money left over that battle.net should be easily maintainable for a few years.

Yeah a lot of what Blizz says nowadays is to avoid the bad PR that comes with some of the pitfalls of not being able to come through. Blizzard used to set dates in their early years and that got them into trouble when they didn't meet them so they have recently started not setting dates. I think SC2 is only the 2nd or 3rd item they haven't actually set a date for
