Activision Blizzard announced today their plans for integration between their multiplayer Battle.net network and Facebook. According to a press release uncovered by forum-goer the8thark, Blizzard plans to incorporate the Battle.net RealID system into your Facebook account, allowing you to add your Facebook friends on Battle.net seamlessly. According to a Q&A session USA Today had with Battle.net director Greg Canessa, Blizzard is aiming to create a more personal friends list on Battle.net. "Really what you are going to do once you buy StarCraft II and you take it home and install it and log onto Battle.net for the first time, you'll be able to essentially hit a button and bring all your Facebook friends that are also on Battle.net into Battle.net and create (Real ID) relationships." The integration will initially include World of WarCraft and StarCraft II accounts, but could spread to other media. To date this is the first major partnership between a major multiplayer game platform and a social networking site. According to the press release Blizzard and Facebook staff are working in tandem to create a UI system for the system. Some players, however, are concerned about privacy issues. Blizzard is deflecting these comments by suggesting that RealID is entirely optional (they claim that players can opt to utilize the more anonymous Battle.net Identifier system). We're unsure of how true that will ultimately be as Blizzard is clearly placing huge emphasis on the RealID system. Status: Joneagle_X just got pwned by a bunch of lings! Source: Blizzard
now all we need is to make starcraft2.org the offical starcraft 2 forum and add a ingame button for it!
What? No. I don't want to see the battle.net trolls flood here. All these nifty (well, for some) little features pop up every now and then... how serious was the release date exactly? Personally I think this feature could've waited until HotS seeing as how the community will already be overwhelmed with battle.net features... plus it'd allow time for everything to settle, and then this link could be a mature idea.
Thanks JonX for your usual awesome writeup And I don't think it'll be in the beta. As it'd take time to get it all working right. ************** Awww. Better luck next time. You should have seen my game. Sure it's only crappy copper. But I get to try out crazy things. Like to see how many enemy zerglings it takes to beat my Nexus with 17 carriers parked ontop of it.
I'm personally enjoying the more 'friendly' route blizzard is taking for b.net, because sure SC is very competitive etc. but having an easy way to talk and communicate with people and not just go match to match to match as soon as its done makes it that much better, or for fun scrimms etc.
This is weird? Won't most people that have Facebook and SC2 play with their friends that they want to play SC2 with? This just seems like a publicity move.
I would probably want to hide just how much I play SC2... lol. Good thing I don't have a Facebook account.
Facebook: Account -> Privacy Settings -> Applications and Websites -> Instant Personalization Pilot Program For anyone protective of their privacy, I'm not sure if this integration will be using this, but you may be giving Blizzard all your personal information if you participate. Maybe not.
You will then die af shame. But really, dont understand how you can troll an account you dont have. Do you mean fake?
Hmmm... So and so plays a lot of war straetegy games. Perhaps hes more cunning than he seems. Maybe I should fire him, he could be after my job. (Employee DT rush.)
