You get points for more posts and threads, it seems.

What awards? Like the ones you get for being a champion of a game in the arcade?

The points count is calculated based on many things, like how popular your threads you create are, how many people rate your threads well, etc etc. I don't know exactly how it calculates everything so read up on it if you are interested.

So, extremely basically, it's good to have both as high as possible, right?

Please be patient. You are talking about the reputation system. I never said this experience system will replace it. This runs along side it. This is more an awards system. I can create awards which members can earn. The experience is more like an activity indicator.

Reputation (i.e. power level) is being implemented right now. In fact, the reputation system (powering up/down) will also affect the experience level.

    Nice

I hope this time people don't abuse rep by giving it for stupid reasons like somone drawing a picture or telling a good joke. Perhaps the mods can keep track of that kind of stuff

I noticed something wierd Theres an "Imported Sc2forums" with over 20 thousand points
BTW I find it funny the mods are less active than many of the members
    Odd. Very odd

On the subject of rep it overflows so you might wanna just do a graphical representation of rep and save yourself 3 lines

    there's only 3 of them

I think I will declare myself bug catcher of the day

In the points thing number of posts does not match the post listing and I don't believe number of threads does either.

What database are those numbers coming from?

I do not know how it calculates amount of posts, it should be the same, but they are the latest recalculated statistics, not much I can do about it.

Please do not get mixed up between 'thanks' and rep. This is not it. Thanks is just if you want to thank somebody for a good post. it is used to show appreciating and will add 0.5 points to the user experience level.

Reps I am still working on.

    Oh I see
Having rep and thanks seems redundant unless thanks adds to rep

No, it's actually good. This is the only way to prevent level inflation. I see you created a thread with guidelines on using the new system but let's face it: inflation will happen eventually, which will make the system totally useless. Remember the previous system - some users had very inaccurate levels.
I don't see any point in having a manual reputation system at all.

But the online bar is nice :)

Well then make only admins/hyperion able to change levels. Seriously, if we don't do something about this, things will just happen all over again.

It should work out just fine so long as rep is moderated.
One of the reasons the last system got out of hand was that the mods didn't care enough to stop frivolous powerups
