We already know Terran dropships have been altered such that they have to pause and do a landing animation before they can drop off units, and that there is a delay between dropping each unit, but what about overlords?

Being able to quickly drop zerglings on a tank line was one of the best ways a zerg could really punish a terran player that hadn't brought enough anti-air with his army, and just in general it was important to be able to drop zerglings quickly because they are so frail and otherwise would be almost useless to perform drops with them in combat.

If overlords would have to pause and unload 1 by 1 to drop off units, I think combat drops with zerglings would become a thing of the past and that tactic would be removed from a zerg players repertoire of viable tactics.

On the other hand, baneling bombing could be very powerful if the overlords could drop instantly while on the move, depending on how quickly the banelings could attack after being dropped.

I think the landing and dropping was only for terran.

im trying to think of how cool it would be to see a overlord dropping banelings out from under its belly onto a bunch of marines :p

Would be a great strategy for a unit without an attack.. although a little slow..

There is no delay when a medivac dropship drops units. Watch the protoss gameplay; while they are "landing" they are already dropping units.

I'd like to see actual dropping animation of different Zerg ground units, like Banelings flip in mid-air, Zerglings flap wings if they get them back, Hydralisks spreads scythes apart like a bat's wings, etc.

    That would be sweet.
To bad the Protoss just materialize. Would be cool to see a Zealot jumping out of a Shuttle, even if it was just in a cinematic. -since it would be to much of a delay in actual gameplay-

I guess its more protoss-like to (de)materialize ;) terran would have a lift animation, while we dont know about zergs..... but yeah, animations like PsiWarp mentionned would be nice.... but is it Blizzard's intention to make nice animation? They scrapped many animation because they said such graphics hindered the gameplay...

    Thats an idea!
but think (if they can hold more units?) then they would unload like 3-4 ultras
and think about that. i mean if u droped them on enemys then they would
have to take like a ton of damge!

it would be like a nuke only a really hard why of doing it!
    (just an idea)

The Overlord can only hold 2 Ultralisks. Also, just dropping 4 Ultralisks in a base will do you no good. By the time you reach Ultralisk tier, a lot of time will already have passed. The enemy will have decent air units and gta units.

Because of that, your Overlords get taken down without support. If you do manage to land a few Ultras, they are doomed due to enemy air support.

If you really just want to use a few Ultralisks, or any gtg unit for that matter, then use Nydus Worms. They are less risky to use, since there is no danger of losing control points. AND they are way faster and precice. Imagine what a few Ultras and Banelings can do to a Nexus. Then bring in air to finish the rest. Should work great for expansions. I would use other tactics then drops or Worms on full bases, though.

Hey why not just unload a ton of banelings at once? By the time the enemy gets tanks you can have the overlord carrying units (If they've left the overlord upgrades at the second teir) and it could be something that drops all units inside at once. this could maybe only be avalible every certain amount of time like 1-2. Minutes. So you'd drop em right infront of the tanks, tanks go boom and them u send in a ton of zerglings to finish the job.

Any one think this is a bad tactic?

Hey! what if when an overlord carrying banelings died it did splash damage to surrounding air units?
That would be friggin awesome. (JK)

That's another cool idea. And if it was carrying units depending on their size it would do more damge.
