When I ran the beta, it ran pretty decent on my system which contained a single 8800GT 512MB at the time. I noticed that my computer was working pretty hard and had prepped it by getting another 8800GT to run in SLI. Now after the beta was over and the game had released, I found that the game would run very bad on my system and every now and then would black out the screens... show no signal, then come back. I tried to turn down settings (lower than they were on the beta when I only had a single 8800GT) and it still was blacking out. I then disabled SLI to see if there are any difference. The game did not black out as much, however performance was still very poor. Does SC2 not like SLI? Am I going to need to upgrade to even run it smoothly?
You have pretty m uch the same vga and same issue I'm having. It must be related to this: And I still don't have a clue how to fix this.
No man, this issue is different from yours. Disable SLI, and also follow those instructions so your card won't overheat. Its prob SLI making the game suck. Blizzard isn't going to support SLI, and I don't really blame them since the game doesn't need it. You can also install your sound driver, Windows is using the generic driver right now. Rest of the system looks good on drivers. If your machine still runs like crap after disabling SLI, then try playing with the USB headphones unplugged from the system to see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the prompt feedback. I'll give all those a try. Hopefully with those fixes I can turn the settings up? I have them at medium... although my card is dated, I expected more out of the 8800GT.
I had no problem running my 8800GT on High with 4X FSAA 4X ANSO. @25-30FPS ; Maybe its the Custom StarCraft2 profile setup in the nVidia CP. Add StarCraft 2.exe as a profile. This is setup for a 9800GTX, but I used this same profile with my 8800GT in the computer. Some of the global defaults have been changed, so make sure the non-bold stuff is adjusted too. I think the biggest thing may be adjust the Threaded optimization. It might also be adjust the pre-rendered frames from 2 to 3 (Windows XP cannot go above 2!). Leaving it off or auto basically means the drivers decided how many cores to use, or you can FORCE the drivers to use all of your CPU cores. Adjust FSAA and ANSO as needed for performance reasons. I have yet to see the 9800GTX hitch with these settings. 8800GT I think had less FSAA (only 2X). This was running at 1680x1050.
@TheXev - did you set up SC2 in ultra after aplying those settings in the video card? Also, how do I get to those options shown in the screenshot? thanks
It worked for a couple games and started having jitter issues again. I got a couple BSODs too. Is there anything with setting affinity for the process to use specific number of procs? Some people also mentioned something about windowed mode?
Well, how does the system run without the overclock applied? Does it run reliably without the overclock? If it is running good at stock speed, but crap overclocked, you may want to head over to a place like HardOCP's forums, since they probably have the best overclocking guys around to ask questions to.
Sorry man, I posted that response in the wrong thread. X_X my bad. What is the model of your MSI motherboard? I want to look into some other things, although it seems that other users have had issues with wireless USB headphones and StarCraft II. The main difference between the other users and you though is that your USB device appears to be showing up properly in the dxdiag as a hardware audio device. Click here to download the software for your Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000, LifeChat v1.4. I can't be sure that the software contains any kind of driver since it takes me forever to download anything on dialup. From what the dxdiag tells me, the headset is using a generic USBAUDIO device driver (meaning, not good. :/) I am downloading the update now, if it nets a driver, I'll update this post. *Edit* Honestly, I downloaded and can't tell what it does. :/
I'll do some troubleshooting with the USB headphones and post back. In terms of motherboard, I have the MSI K9N2 Platinum which has the nForce 750a SLI chipset.
Okay, so your board is the MSI K9N2 Platinum. There have been many BIOS updates for your board since its release. First off, did you try installing that audio driver I listed above? You can install MSI LiveUpdate to aid you in keeping your motherboard related software up-to-date. I looked into listing the newest SLI chipset drivers, but they look like they are installed already. :/ So I highly doubt thats it. Might try pulling one of the 8800GT's from the system to see how StarCraft 2 plays with only one. Also might want to check your PhysX settings in the control panel... StarCraft 2 doesn't like having PhysX enabled at all for some reason, even though it doesn't use it.
I believe that last item made the issues go away. I didn't pull out the other 8800GT because other games are fine with SLI. But I had adjusted the PhysX settings. I could not find a "disable" feature for the PhysX, but instead of assigning it to either 8800GT, I changed the assignment to use the CPU. In turn, the freezing, black outs and crashes did not appear and I was able to play for about 3 hours straight. Before I wouldn't be able to go 10 minutes without some issues. I'm pretty sure that took care of it... but I'll need to play even more to see. I have everything on High.... do you think I'd be able to push it to Ultra? Thanks!
