It would be really cool if there was some kind of system in b.net where you could choose which race you would like to play against. This way it should be possible to really train up your weakest matchup in a easy way without needing to seartch players yourself.

Abusable... Players will take the path of least resistance. They would use it to play match-up they are best at.

On one of conventions they said something about "less buckets" which means that they will try to limit options so you don't have to wait ages to find a game. Imagine if you could choose race you want to play against that's 3 or 6 more game type just for 1v1, then there's standard 1v1 and more plyers, teams, FFA and all.
I don't think there will be much more (if at all) choices than in wc3

You could just do custom games 1v1 with friends and practice all day long. Or go to some elite clan channel and taunt some hotshot player to play 1v1 with, lol.

I think it's a very good idea. I think Battle.net and to some extent the game itself should be geared up to allow people to enjoy playing it in the way they want. Being able to pick races on b.net would allow you to have any type of game you feel like on the fly.

Quite likely which is why I think it's a good idea, as some people will prefer to play that way and would have more fun.

If we look at the Ranking and Ladder system from WC3, this feature wouldnt be "fair". People whould be able to choose that match-up they play the best, and therefore be able to get a much higher Rank, or even getting number 1!
And there is another "shadow-side", namely that it will take even longer time for you to find a game, and thats what Blizzard wants to change!
The only or the most important thing to fix is really WHO you meet. Im sick of the Warcraft 3 Ladder, where you constantsly meets noobs, because of a sucky system. In WC3 you meet people based on your last record, example:
You just lost 3 matches in a row, now you will meet at least an other who lost 3 matches in a row, and that will probaly be a noob. Even if you have a 80% score and he has a 10% score.
This is especially sucky in 2vs2, because if you just loose one match, then its hard to "get out".

Ok. Can hear there is lots of people who dosent like the idea becouse of abuse reason. But what about make this to a "ums" setting or what it is called where you dont get any stats but you are instead guarantee to get the one you want as oponent. It´s true it might take long time to get a match, but it takes even longer to find a match as it is now where you have to type which race you want to play against in the game name.

If you are talking about more the Warcraft UMS/custom game, which I think will be the one used in Starcraft 2, then that cant be usefull.
Im 90% sure the system will be the same as in Warcraft 3, with custom game, arranged game/team and Auto-match. Only in auto-match and AT are you able to "search" for other teams/players, and they both count into your ranking.

Absolutely agree. Games that count towards your stats shouldn't be race chooseable but all the rest should be.

When you played custom game in Warcraft 3 you could just write:
Orc vs UD (im Orc) + observers
Then you could be sure that a UD player whould join :D, so I cant really see the problem.
