As you see, I've changed my avatar. I'd wanted to include orange in it for a long time (to bring my favorite colors together), but I'd only recently been able to pull it off in a non-obstructive way. Compare: The "sea shelves" in the blue part have their shadows reversed (and there's another layer), should I change it so that the apparent height is more realistic? It might be a little hard on the eyes without the black starscape holding it down, too bright and shiny? What do you think about the change?
Yeah, I agree that it seems to be closer to yellow than orange, but the edges are orange enough for me. Going all the way makes it seem unnatural. Also, I hadn't even noticed the contrast problem in the other one, thanks for pointing that out.
If you want, you can consider the yellow part to be a dust cloud or nebula. (That's what I tell myself it is, at least.)
hmmm... so you've turned your "night" avatar to "day" avatar? so ill wait again until it turns back to night? LOL
Blue and orange work, blue orange and green is a little harder to pull off, albeit possible if done right. I would do more to the background and the planet/semi-sphere thing to make all of it blend better. As of now I like the original.
BoP: I think you might be under the impression that it is supposed to literally look like a planet. Think of it more as a flag, and the stylization should make more sense. Or do the stripes hurt it from a purely visual point of view as well? -- Here, side-by-side, one with, one without: Perhaps two stripes is too busy? I personally think no stripes makes it too flat.... Maybe just one is the way to go.
I think that if you want to have stripes on the blue half; have it on the green half too. That would look great.
I agree. Left is better. It looks more simple. The other one looks busier because of the stripes. If you did have stripes though it would look better if the lower part were closer brightess to the green and it gets lighter going away from the green.
