I have looked around and searched for other topics on this subject, so don't kill me if it is a repeat. Anyway, do you think there should be an unit auto-arrange feature in SC2? If any of you have played Age of Mythology, you might know what I'm talking about. Example: you select a few units, maybe an Immortal and a few Zealots, then you move them somewhere nearby. In SC1, the units would just move there in no particular order. With auto-arrange, the units would line up evenly and according to rank (e.g. the Immortal, seeing as it is a more "important" unit, would go to the front) and once they reach the destination, they would be perfectly in line. On the same topic, the units that were selected would all travel at the same pace, e.g. if the Immortal is the slowest, the Zealots would slow down to the speed of the Immortal to group together and reach the destination at the same time. In Starcraft 1, it became very annoying when moving a group of marines and a seige tank somewhere: by the time the marines reached their location, the tank would still be struggling to get out of the base. Btw, I thought that the auto-arrange option can be turned on or off at any time, should some players get annoyed with it. What are your thoughts?
Warcraft 3 had auto arrange also known as unit formations. And I would think that StarCraft 2 would have it as well. It can be turned off or turned on at any time.
yeah, you can see the auto arrange system in the gameplay trailer. At the beginning, watch the zealots pile up on each other when the player click moves them.
ye shockwave, you need to see the trailers, so you can get your own personal shockwave goin on. as for auto arrange i hope it sticks closely with W3s auto arrange, maybe a bit more smart. I would like to see cannon fodder and melee units up front and support ranged unit in the rear with the gear and that they cordinate their attacks preciessly at the same time and from the same direction. being that currently you can cast up/click on/ping on an unlimited ammount of units it will be interesting to see how formations work out and out army movements will happen, and how support units will cover melee units and so on. . .
I actually almost always split unit groups up by unit type in warcraft 3 so that I could micro them all on my own.
I do that too, its much easier to micro that way. And Shockwave, you HAVE to see that gameplay vid, its orgasmic.
