From what I know the traditional Dragoon will not be featured in SC2. Blizzard even backs it up adding to the SC storyline that the zergs destroyed the temples of the Dragoon warriors. I know the game isn't completed yet but I don't see these powerful units returning.

Apparently the goons were replaced by Immortals(?)
I don't think immortals can hit air units and I don't think they can get the sweet range the goons had. But the power shield is awesome in its own right and I think better strategists than me can find even more useful purposes for it.

Do you think the immortal is a good trade off for the goon?

Immortals replace Dragoons LORE-wise, but Stalkers replace Dragoons gameplay-wise, so to say. Stalkers are like weaker but more mobile Dragoons thanks to Blink.

    Isn't this a duplicate thread?

    I apologize if its a duplicate , I don't know, didn't check.

I was just looking at tiers in protoss production and it seems immortals through the same build as dragoons. I assume stalkers are a higher tier ?
Stalker's blink can easily make up for the range advantage of dragoons but I can't think of any first tier units protoss can get for anti-air in SC2 but I guess its not really necessary in the beginning of the game since all air units for all races ( I think) come at a higher tier. But I just loved the fact that goons were good on ground and against air.

Stalkers take the Dragoons place on the tech tree, Immortals come later. The Protoss' tier 1 unit that can attack Air targets in the Stalker. The earliest flying unit is the Overlord, but all the others come later. Stalkers will also be more powerful against Overlords as they count as Armoured targets and the Stalkers receive a damage bonus when fighting Armoured targets.

The only thing that I will miss is the robotic voice and awesome quotes the Dragoons had in SC1.
e.g. "Input command." or my personal favorite: "Drop your weapon, you have 15 seconds to comply."

I'm not going to miss them , big mechanical crab monsters with blue stuff inside and a nearly dead protoss. I always liked to crack them open and spill all the blue liquid, that was my favorite part.

i don't know what you are talking about ensomgrav, but the dragoons look fine. the concept of having crippled beings that still have strong wills to fight is good enough for me and if it isn't really useless like a civilian in the battlefield, its a bonus.

I'll probably get a bit nostalgic over Dragoons, one in particular.

However. My 100% heart-felt opinion is that Stalkers are freaking awesome.

I won't miss the dragoons because of the Stalker and Immortal and the way they add to the gameplay.

Neither will I. The Dragoons were good and all but Stalkers are now way better than dragoons ever were due to their Blink ability that requiers no power but simply a cool-down of 5 seconds and in the hands a good micro play this is a deadly finish. Plus the Immotals kick ass in that they are pretty much the Ultralisks of the Zerg. Designed to soak up damage accept these guys are better in that they can actually kill things lol. Ultralisks are the personafication of the Zerg. Fun to shoot at, look a little scary at first, but then you realise they are big bugs with no bite, and thus you squash them with either your psionic boot or your fist of bullets with ease.

    Do I miss goons?

No, I hated them. Microing with them was terrible and usually just ended up getting them killed. You gotta love it when you tell them to go back, and they would go the opposite direction first.

Plus, as stated, stalkers and immortals will be much better and will be easier to control, and they have abilities(hardened shield/blink)

Nope, the substitutes are so much cooler that there is nothing to miss. I might miss them more if they had SC2 pathing system, but they don't, so they are mostly frustrating.
