Any allusion of the Zerg/Protoss Hybrid in WoL ?

Hi all.

One question that irritated me some days ago and that I decided to put on this forum :
Starcraft 2 : Wings of Liberty will have a storyline based on the Terran campaign which means that we will get probably 30 missions of hard rock battles and, I hope, some strategy but only with Terran units, structures and heroes.

I have been surprised to discover, more than 10 years ago, a BONUS mission in the Brood War Zerg campaign where we could play the Protoss, when we helped Zeratul to meet the Z/P Hybrids. Already one other question : Will there be some additional, hidden BONUS missions in WoL and even in the next SC2 games ?

I don't know the storyline of the solo campaign of WoL. I hope that some time we will play with other races even in this Terran campaign. And I hope that there will be an "allusion" to the Z/P Hybrids. They are a big threat for the universe as LT Samir Duran said to Zeratul. So I hope the scenarist(s) of WoL will not just ignore the Hybrids and not introduce them just in the latest Protoss campaign.
We could see some Hybrids in WoL, then some other new Hybrid units in Heart of the Swarm, and then new other units and maybe structures (if it is finally decided that the Hybrids will be a 4th race) in Legacy of the Void.

I believe that there are side missions where you play as Zeratul. It was announced quite a while ago.

 

There is one protoss mission involving Zeratul. Blizzard hinted it might not be an all-protoss mission either in some interview somewhere.

There might be a secret mission. Hinted at here: http://sclegacy.com/features/blizzcon08/gameplay/IMG_0061.jpg. (Note the color for secret mission, and that one mission is of that color.) Whether that has anything to do with hybrids is anyone's guess.

I personally believe the hybrids won't be seen until Legacy of the Void. Problem is, the hybrids seem to be so powerful that, once they attack, the protoss have to drop everything (including their petty strife) and fight back. However, it's possible we'll learn something about them in Wings of Liberty or Heart of the Swarm, and (hopefully) fight a small number of them too!

Anyway thank you for your answer, you and Aurora. That's the answer I wanted to read. I really didn't know if the Hybrids would be introduced in this game (WoL). But we are still not sure of this again. BUT now I know that we will play with Zeratul even in WoL, and that's something very interesting to know.

The first paragraph is all true, the rest is speculation. (The picture is for real, but the names are obviously jokes; it's the pattern that's important.)

 

I think that Zeratul is probably looking for Duran atm, if he found that what happened in Brood War was important enough to spend a few years on. If that's the case, then he will likely visit places where Duran has been. We know that Duran had hybrids on many planets, so I say encountering a few of them in the WoL secret mission is certainly possible.

 

I'd expect that only in Zeratul's mission then. And other than the dark moon, how does Zeratul know where there are hybrids?

(Well, possibly those strange creatures under Aiur.)

I was more thinking of how Zeratul was talking about how far he had travelled in his life and stuff. I think that he might have some experience with tracking stuff. Pure speculation, obviously, but I like throwing in random ideas.

Also, he now knows that the hybrids eminate psionic energies. That means that he knows what to look for.

Combine that with how his void powers could tap into the Overmind. Maybe he did the same when killing those hybrids in Brood War, and can find them that way? That would be far be the most simple explantion.

However, I think that we have all learned to expect complex storylines by now. I doubt that it will be that easy. :/

 

The hybrids in stasis emitted little energy (same with the high templar). I don't think Zeratul can find any "frozen" hybrids.

However, he might be able to find each cache of hybrids as they awaken, if he's tracking them as you say. Also, I feel sorry for him if he goes to those caverns under Aiur. Those things might not be hybrids, but there's six of them, and they seem pretty powerful.

 

I could easily see the hybrids in the game in all 3 expantions, (i wonder if that will be side missions only or tie into the over all plot, im ganna guess over all) and if there's going to be super units like that you will probly have to fight them, maybe in the Zerg compain you can nural parasite them but they have 1/2 all stats and you have to use random strategys like that, either way you will fight them (and knowing blizz there not just going to be just pimped out hydralisks)

Maybe if they bring the hybrids into the story enough they could make a new race, but maybe not till, SC3 and it probly would just be a bonus campain thingy. I don't see blizz putting in a 4th race for a long time.

 

Yeah, 'cause they also didn't do that with Warcraft 3: TFT.


Oh wait. They did.
It was an npc race, but still an entire and fully functional race. And looking at the amount of critters they put in Warcraft, it would be a real letdown if Starcraft 2 won't have any.

So: at least Xel'Naga/Hybrid "critters" at some point, maybe a fourth (npc) race.

What are some speculations of unit desgins? An archon body with ultra blades and giant rockets attached to the side. (that would never happen, but maybe you could make in editer, the editer seems so bad @***!!!)

 

LOL so the mission map was a joke! I saw things like Titanic, Kerrigan crying scene and Kerrigan & Oprah or smth.. So far only the first 5 missions are detailed through actual gameplay in WoL, am I right?

 

The first seven are detailed, actually.

 

Hope they will not detail all the 30 missions of WoL. Else we will never discover by ourselves. There will be no surprise anymore. And so, no interest to play the campaign. (I'm exagerating right now)
