And here's what it says: First third of a statement In an announcement during the StarCraft 2 Gameplay panel at BlizzCon, Blizzard told the assembled media that StarCrtaft is in fact a trilogy. The single-player campaign for the game will be released in three separate expansions which will tell the story chronologically. The order is: Wings Of Liberty (Terran), Heart Of The Swarm (Zerg), and Legacy Of The Void (Protoss). The rhetoric spoke of telling an epic story via the three expansions, but it's not hard to see this as a money making exercise. Pretty standard article here. But why I posted it up is cause it says "tell the story chronologically". And not 3 different perspectives of the same story or time frame as many of us have thought. Is this true?
Why? It's been stated countless times that each campaign will arrive at the end of the story of SC2. But I don't know what to think now.
umm.. but if each story gets to the same point, it wont be as dramatic. I guess they want to generate expectations and ****.. If at the end of wings of liberty kerrigan's dead and the universe's safe.. that would be awful D:
That's where perspective would come into play. For example in WOL you might see Kerrigan vanish during the battles and get in conflict with the Protoss and only learn in the last expansion that the Protoss killed her (i.e., you) before engaging the Terran. I'd love to see the same story from 3 perspectives because then Blizzard could show off with their amazing stories with hiatuses, flashbacks, and everything. By the end of the first campaign you'd have a dozen questions which would be answered through the second and third campaigns, which would be really cool.
Who cares what that article says about the timelines of the campaigns, they appear to think that SC2 was split into three to make money, even though Blizzard have said they were planning to have two expansions anyway. Only thing that changed with the trilogy was the structure of the campaigns. They don't appear to know much. Get your Starcraft news from fansites and Blizzard instead.
See this is the exact question that I asked at BlizzCon. The stories will be chronological. So the Terran story will end and the Zerg story will pick up where the Terran left off.
The thing I like most about this is that for each of the 3 games the storyline will have to be as large as the original starcraft's 3 stories put together... For all you people who just think its for Blizzard to make money, did you ever consider that each campaign may be too big for one disc? Probably not, though its possible... Now I have a few questions... So do you get starcraft 2 first without any campaigns? Or, do you get the first campaign and only get taught how to use the one race? (Not that the campaigns are what you learn to play from, but i'm sure some people would) Will they all be released at the same time? If not, Isn't that a good thing? This means we'll get SC2 quicker... right? And havn't they said that most of their time is consumed by making the campaign? If they finish one we'll be able to get our hands on it why they work on the other two... But thats only if they release them at differen't times. PS: Chronological FTW! lol
Simbob I think you need to read up on Blizzcon because most of that has been answered/discussed Chronological order for campaigns sucks because we'll have to wait ~20 months to see how the SC2 story ends. I really hope, seeing as how the trilogy thing is inevitable, that all the campaigns will finish the story and that only aspect (and thus details on the story) changes.
*Points at kuvasz and screams "I TOLD YOU SO"* Me555, all newspapers are in black and white D: Well, at least the big majority
they jsut said that to keep the **** from hitting the fan too hard, GMG. i hate to sound brutal but that's just one of those excuses so fan's go 'see? they were gonna do it anyway!' and obviously they'd never admit to that. no gaming company really ever will, because that's destroying their retreat and base from people who don't like the idea.
And just how do you know they said that just to cover their ***es? They have no reason to. The whole trilogy thing ain't no biggy, people are just making it into one. It's just two expansions. Starcraft had one, why can't SC2 have two?
