I finally got some money to get a better pc. Im considering a couple of all in ones. Lenovo 22 inch AMD X2 dual core 235 4 gb DDR 3 2 mb L2 cache memory 1 tb hard drive ATI 3000 graphics Built in high speed wireless LAN W7 home premium $750 HP 20 inch AMD dual core 240e 4 gb PC-3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 2 mb cache memory 750 gb hd ATI 4270 HD graphics Wireless LAN W7 home premium 64 bit $800 Are all in ones good or should I stick with a regular desktop such as this: HP Phenom 2 quad core 945 1 tb hard drive 8 gb 10600 DDR3 SDRAM Vision ultimate tech, Direct connect , memory optimizer (whatever all that crap is) 2MB L2 + 6MB shared L3 cache memory ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics 512 mb W7 home premium 64 bit $800 without monitor Opinions?
First two are laptops, right? You don't want a laptop for gaming. The last one is a desktop for 800 without a monitor and a crappy graphics card... what gives? You should just stick with the PC guide found here. Use the search function.
re Well I did get a laptop. HP 17 inch LED i-5 480m 2.6 ghz with turbo boost up to 2.9 ghz 640 gb hard drive 4 gb DDR-3 SDRAM ATI HD 6370 switchable graphics 512 mb DDR3 dedicated card Windows 7 home premium 64 bit with office 2010 starter Blu-ray disc drive $800 originally $900 It was better than any of the desktops I looked at and cost less and the guy told me that it will play SC2 without a problem. Im loading it as Im typing this. Cant wait to get on Bnet and get my butt whipped.
re So far its playing the game just fine. No hiccups or nothing. But it's obvious Im in need of practice. So far with 10 matches against the AI, I've lost all 10 on medium.
With a machine of that spec it was bound to play SC2 alright. It is bouting well above the min spec. The reason you want a desktop is due to heat (for a large part). a laptop like that will play the game file but if you want to change parts youll find it alot harder and itll get alot hotter than if it were a desktop.
re Heat was my concern but I played SC2 for nearly 2 hours once and it felt warm but not hot. It has a stand that elevates the front about 2 inches thus letting out more heat. So far so good, love the laptop.
Personally, I prefer Desktops over Laptops. Sure, Laptops are mobile, but you don't get as great of performance than desktops. Yes, yes, I know, you've probably seen a better specc'd Laptop over a Desktop, but believe me. A desktop that is build with equivalent laptop specs, would out perform the laptop. Then there's the factor you could upgrade the components inside a desktop. Where-as a laptop, you'd have to buy an entirely new one to upgrade. Now, do you know how to build a computer? If so, I could suggest parts for you to throw together, all you need to do is give me a price limit.
re Nope never built one. I will get a desktop but not until summer probably. The laptop will do for now. Got it instead of desktop cause wife was wanting a new laptop.
Haha! I don't blame you. Whatever my wife wants, she gets. Her first, me second, 'cause I'm a provider.
