From what i've seen its the same (well more expensive considering it was just released not factoring 2 WoW expansions) cost as WoW. In my opinion it looks like alot of other asian mmorpg's out there just with a larger budget...Which could mean its good! But i'm waiting a few months at least...
From what I've been told its system is a lot cheaper then WoW. Where in WoW they charge you 15 bucks no matter what. Whether your playing or not you gotta pay it. In AION you buy hours, so if your only going to buy like... 200 hours and only play 90 a month that's pretty good. 200 hours costs about 18 bucks so if that lasts you 3 months then well w/e do the math. In any case it looks like it has sharper graphics and a more active fighting style.
Thats just the model for the asian market the Western market will get the standard 15$ per month ref https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/Store.pl?dnv=4320887908&action=viewItem&item_id=145
It's not that hard to figure out why you pay per hour in an Asian MMO. Few people there own a decent gaming computer. Everybody plays in an internet cafe, where you pay per hour. You can't even buy a boxed vesion of WoW in some of those countries afaik. You buy accounts, and play on an internet cafe pc, which already has the game pre-installed. Still, that doesn't explain why the same system is used for Aion everywhere in the world. WoW differs per country, so no lame excuses that they can't do it. :/
My roommate beta'd for it twice, pre-ordered it, and is playing it right now. It looks kinda fun...each player has their own set of magic wings (in place of mounts I think) to go from place to place instead of walking. Also my roomie tells me that they only charge you for each full month you play (Example: if you've only played for two months worth of time, and six months have gone by, you'll only be billed for the for the two months). They do round up when they bill though, something like 3 weeks or more will count as one month, but anything less won't.
I've played the beta and it is pretty much like your standard MMO besides some nuances. You have wings that you can use to fly around but only in certain areas that allow you to do so and there aren't too many of them. The classes and questing are pretty standard you got your Tank, Healer, Assassin, Ranger, Priest, and Mage classes. The quests are the usual kill 10 of things, collect 5 of this etc. I would say though it is one of the more balanced MMOS in terms of classes and it is very polished in terms of graphics, animations, etc but the gameplay is pretty standard.
yea my friend is now offically addicted to it. gamestop is rumoring about it being the next WoW, but i dont thnik blizzard would ever let that happen. there's no way it can be as good as WoW anyways, since blizzard is defintely pretty much THE best gaming company xpxpxpxp. i might play it, wen i run out of tihngs to do....like in a few years , but then again, it might get old......wat im thinking about is playing Mortal, go check it out. in any case, im playing Perfect World right now. its an OK mmorpg, many "problems" that most MMORPGs have (go check out IGN's top 10 problems with mmorpgs or w/e its called)
Unfortunately, Reddit has prolly turned me off it. I dunno if these are isolated cases or not, but: Link 1 Link 2
I kinda stopped when people started to imitate fax machines or began talking about knitting. Oh well. WoW was messy at first too. Then again, that was years ago.
I think those are pretty isolated cases Fenix, because I've seen a lot worse in chat all the time and have never seen a GM take action or anything. I played the closed beta of WoW and a little bit at launch and it was just as bad or even worse than what Aions launch is going through now. You can't really a judge a MMO overall based on how the launch is. I mean WoW even had long queues after they finished cleaning up the launch etc.
YOU KNOW WHAT?! aion has its own keyboard. AND YOU KNOW WHAT?~! Fenix reminds me of a starcraft character
No irony at all. I play on a private server, with (A) a much smaller population than retail (a few hundred players on at a time) and (B) far more lax rules. On my old one, I even used to GM, so....No irony.
Fenix, aren't private servers illegal? or at least don't they violate the terms of use? I mean I know there are a lot of them out there and Blizzard really doesn't do much about them but does that make them right? The only reason I would play Aion is for it's art style and the balance of the classes other than that it doesn't offer anything more than other MMOs currently on the market. The flight is very limited from what I played and that was from levels 1-20 and only about 2 small areas allowed me to fly in them.
I doubt it because the game was very highly anticipated and already has hundreds of thousands of players and was just released. I think it is gonna be awhile until they offer any kind of free trial program, probably months or longer.
