I got a beta key and man I'm in love with the game already! It doesn't have the clean feeling of SC but the graphics are really cute(seriously cute, i'm not kidding, they're adorable!) Also the whole system with the cities and leveling up and various tech trees and upgrading gear on units from loot which shows on units in battle and stuff like that make for a really different kind of experience... So far I like it a lot! As a strategy game it does seem very inferior to SC but as a game overall it's very fun to play and tbh it seems like I'm gonna buy it when it's out...
I've always enjoyed the AoE games. It's not as much about battles, but completely outperforming your oppenents. Definitely more metagame, and I love the depth of alliances (trade, giving materials, buy/sell materials)
I got interested after seeing this video gameplay. Reminds me somewhat of AoE3 since you can get experience and items for your home city to improve your future games. I also like the cartoony design. When the game gets out of beta, I'm playing Egyptian. That was my favorite race in the original; and my most hated to have the computer play as(stupid priests >.<)
I never liked egyptians much tbh, always prefered the northern races(like the norse on Age of Mythology, I find the greeks funny since the unit names seem funny to read in english plus the soundsets are hilariously bad with very very silly pronounciations and quotes for every unit, lol... I'll deffinitely get it too if I have any time for games when it comes out, but dunno which race I'll play.. Between egyptians and greeks I'll pick greeks, but if some other race gets added I'll consider it depending on how cool I find it
Those knights were clearly OP but they never cared. Same with centurions, especially if you played the Greeks. AOE. Imba I say. As for this new sequel, it looks fun because of the graphics but it's just not for me. I got tired of the AOE series because I was reliving the agonising moments of being in History classes. Sci-fi all the way.
The last few days the only game I've been playing is AoEo. I've grown extremely fond of it, and despite the fact that it still needs quite a bit of polishing in UI matters, bugs etc, it's a really lovely game an it doesn't seem to be as imbalanced as I thought it would be at first which is good... I'm lvl 32 so far, and I'm really looking forward to hit the cap and start trying out different tech builds with the max available talents. It seems that it's gonna be free to play with purchasable stuff, from playable civilisations to vanity crap... For example, greeks and egyptians seem like they're gonna be free to play, but for other civs you'll have to pay to unlock, or something like this... It doesn't sound too bad, and you still get to play a whole game while controlling the cost from free to as much as you like witout falling out of competition due to basic stuff missing. Hope it does indeed turn out like this... Anyway, just wanted to say that I like what I see so far...
I've read that non-premium players(those who havent paid anything) will not be able to use rare or epic gear, but that would be ok because the pvp system would not pair premium against non-premium players. So there are essentially two versions of each civ, one that costs money and has access to more options, and another that is free but more restricted. I'm planning to buy a premium civ just so I can use the epic gears. I'm currently lvl37 and use archer/barracks tech with a few palintonons and heliopolis for long range siege area-affect damage.
I think that only advisors are unusable in the free content(You get an advisor's hall and select an advisor per age, advisors come from chests like gear, and when you hit said age the advisor's passive bonus pops up. These include anything from castle-specific units to bonuses on certain types of units, to reduced cost of upgrades or build time of units etc and it's a really cool feature allowing you to customise your civilisation to your playstyle.)... I'll deffinitely buy a civ to get access to all content for it, but probably won't buy anything else... And I'm also lvl 37 and use the same tech choises, lol(maxed archery range, maxed rax and fortresses for siege stuff, I got the epic hetairoi unit for siege damage and to cover for my lack of cavalry - my advisors are the epic versions of the one which reduces build time/cost for buildings in age 1, the one which increases range/sight for archers, the one which causes archers to snare units and the one which allows building of hetairoi at the fort - works really great so far and is very very much to my liking. rest of my points are all split in economy/workers/armory/market) What's your userID, eon? Add me(Stirlitzba) to your friends if you'd like and we could play a game or two some day! Cheers!
i've got all epic advisors. The build time/cost decrease, archer range, desert cavalry, and helepolis. I don't have much for cavalry, only the anti-range one. However, I only got it because I found a armor for them that gave 92.7% anti-infantry armor. Thus, they do bonus damage against range units and take little damage from any barracks units. Have you tried making items using the capital city factories? I've been making epic bandit and mercenary archers. My ID is EonMastor
I've tried making such items, but I've only found a good cavalry recipe, while I got the utility(the one with worker/fishing boat/caravan gear) and the archer one... Bandit archers are awesome especially if you got the epic versions, but I'm a little reluctant to use them since I got no option to build them yet As for the desert cavalry, I haven't tried it yet, how do you like it? What about the helepolis? I found that the hetairoi are pretty good to deal with buildings and siege units, which complements well my infantry/archer composition. I still wanna test the desert archers and see how they fare, and got quite a few more fort units which i haven't tried as of yet Also have you found out if star tech applies to fort units? I'm really curious about that, cause it might make my desert archers quite powerful if it did...
Desert cavalry seems pretty good, though I dont think they have any bonuses to to other types of units. Elite Helepolis is actually really good. They do melee damage against buildings and are stronger than rams. Against units, they do an AoE attack that has a range similar to the basic archer, that the attack can kill a villager in one shot. So its basically an upgraded ram with ~upgraded 10 archers inside it and decent health. I've started making elite bandit archers, though haven't used any yet(takes about a day to collect enough to make 1). I've also got elite mercenary archer drawing, but they can only be used in Age 4 and require over 1k gold to use, but they summon 16 archers, 10 more than the bandit summons. I also have the construction school, though I've only made training time decrease items so far. I can also use it to make bandit towers and fortresses which build themselves and thus dont need villagers. However, they require different epic mats than the archers, so I cant create mats for both the archers and buildings at the same time due to the factory limits on the home city. Haven't tried the star tech for fortress, so don't know if it applies to fortress units.
Aw, the helepolis seems quite awesome, yeah, I remember the unit now from age of mythology... I'll deffinitely give it a try... As for crafting, I'll start checking it out more later, I've focused only around levelling so far(hit 38 and need 2 more to 40), when I max I"ll start exploring other things too... Btw do you mostly quest or pvp? Are you up for some 2vs2s?
