question (for you guys that play bnet today): In this picture for future bnet: http://www.joystiq.com/photos/battle-net-blizzcon-2009/2226479/ i can see that you choose game type and then race and the press the button "start search". Now, what happens after start search? 1. I get a list of matchups where I get to choose one that I find suits me, that is I see the map and (maybe) I see which race I am facing (but probably thats not a good idea). But I atleast can choose map from available games within my skill range. or 2. start search is (sorry for the WoW comparison =) ) like queuing for arena in WoW. That is I just randomly enter a map that blizz has and face a random opponent of the same skill as me? So the question is, is the map choice just random? I can understand that for pros it should be random from a certain map pool because of map advantages etc... but still, anyone know the answer or can tell me how it works today?
The map you get is random. But choosing custom will likely let you choose your own map. Besides, doesn't Warcraft III let you select a couple of maps you don't want to play? I doubt that such a thing isn't available anymore.
I hope automatic match making isn't mandatory and instead juts a tool to find quick games.. I really hated that in W3.
I see "play as guest" : does that mean we haven't to register to play ? How will be the UMs maps ? Will we get rewarded when we win ?
In WC3 I never went to Custom Games section because it is crowded with DOTA, Footmen and the like kind of games. The custom section had completely different kind of community. There was the AT/RT games community and the Custom Games people. I personally prefer to play the game more than custom rules/maps. The Search For Game feature is OK but I'm really hoping Blizzard would improve it. Or at least have an Official-Maps-Only Casual Gaming where you can find games created/hosted to play official maps casually. I also had problems hosting a game or inviting a team member for AT match. I wasn't the only one with that problem, but some people can just create games or invite others for AT. I couldn't understand that part.
The problem is with your router, you most likely had to foward some ports. And yeah searching for a "real" game ( one with no custom rules / maps ) would be good, the way SC1 is B.net is good, as long as it doesn't count towards your record.
