I've been wondering all this time since the wings of liberty announcement....Why do terrans always have to go first? this actually means that they always are the losers....in sc1 we all saw what happened

planets lost infested destroyed....and after that the invasion of aiur came....not a great story for terrans...in bw the ued proved to be a force to be reckoned with(this time terrans came second) but zerg had the last say....just like protoss had the last say in sc 1......

what i mean is....i want to see the terran get to have the last say for once....

marketing. terrans going 1st = more money.

more people (including casuals) give a crap about terrans, not so much the other 2 races. blizzard wants to milk all the cash out of this before moving on.

    its all about money dude.

It's easier for us to identify ourselves with a human than with an alien race. Therefore new players will also be more likely to pick up the game if they are playing with a human race. If I bought a new game and I would be playing as some kind of 'Zerg' with slime all over them etc. I'd be more reluctent to get the know the game. But hey, that could just be me.

That's not just you. There's an immense psychological study behind every single public move behind every single advertisement, product, service, etc.

On the subject, having Terran first doesn't necessarily mean they lose. Remember that the three campaigns will introduce three perspectives of the same plot, so in actuality it is unrelated which race you play first because there could be plot twists supported only later, by another campaign - feats that you will achieve later when you play it. I suspect Blizzard will play mindgames with us similar to how it's done in films (e.g. Butterfly effect). The most probable outcome, however, is that nobody will lose. Remember how much publicity SC2 has and how high expectations it must meet (unlike SC1 had to) - going by that, plus the marketing psychology of things, it would only be plausible to have all three races tie, each going in their own directions after the war. Not only would that satisfy the whole userbase (because nobody's favourite race perished), but it would also leave open the possibility to make sequels, which, sadly or not, goes full circle in supporting the milking process. Not that we wouldn't benefit from that... :p

... what everyone else said xD

Keep in mind that even though this is the terran campaign, Blizzard has said that we will have a mini subplot with Zeratul and possibly Kerrigan. I'd dare say you get to play protoss for a mission or two, and even zerg too.
Similarly, its very likely that in the zerg and protoss campaigns Raynor or other Terran characters will be featured.

Protoss were the last campaign in SC vanilla and they lost their home planet... so the fact that they go first or last doesn't make much of a difference in terms of storyline.

i recently read somewhere(cant find a link) that the terran campaign will take place before the events of the zerg and protoss campaign.....if things are as u say(3 perspectives of the same plot) then im absolutely fine with terrans getting released first(im a terran player)....

It's very true that when you play a race-based campaign, then that race will be dominating, which I myself do not like. I hope that some mission have it so that you will lose instead of winning, so that race doesn't completely dominate.

That's an interesting idea, to make the player lose and continue the campaign on a different route. However, that's not possible without setting an insanely imba trigger and pour 500 units on you, which looks preposterous. Needless to say that is the only way of making the player lose because otherwise adept players will fend off the forces and win, and then what? :D Though it could be that that 'losing' mission acts as a filter, and giving people who beat that mission extremely hard missions only to return to the plot a couple of games later.

Spardas, please don't quote me on it :D I'm really not sure now... they change practically everything on a monthly basis.

edit: in starcraft wikia says that heart of the swarm and legacy of the void will be occuring after wings of liberty chronologically.....that sucks

I love watching the guy who voiced Mengsk talk. Such a "Leader" voice.

SC1 campaign terran do you see terran dominate? I see more them killing themselves and beeing totally exterminated by zerg losing planets and even their capital.

and back to my original post marcmad.....i just want terrans to take the zerg capital for once...destroy them and then wait for the next game to see what the zerg has to say....i liked what the ued did but it only lasted for one chapter:mad:

Well, in Brood war, the UED managed to do loads in the terran campaign in the beginning. However, they soon got smashed just by Kerrigan. I was like, what happened to the commander that accomplished so much at the beginning? It was really stupid to see it totally dominating when you were playing, yet fall to pieces after that.

I wonder what Terran factions we'll see.
    Obious Raynor's Raiders
    The Dominion

For some reasons I remember hearing something about the remnants of the UED...
Kel-Morian Combine for sure, I'm curious to see if they play a role and if so what kind.

How come the Umojan-Protectorate isn't in the story, at all? I would like to see them come out for a little bit. They were the third set of people that lived the space ship crashes. Just read the lore.

I think since they will happen at the same time, you will see some places getting dominated, and where you play, you owning everything. Like in C&C, you dominate, yet at the same time, the other commander on the opposing side, that you play later on, but during the same "time" is just as equally dominating everything. You're just in two different places.

As for the UED Commander, maybe he was secretly Duran.
