Have any of you guys played this JEWEL of a game? Released in '97, its a 2d platformer with graphics that still hold to this day, and a storyline so immersive I replayed the game at least 4 times ever since I bought it back then (and another 3-4 times the sequel, Abe's Exoddus) The latest sequel, Stranger's Wrath, has a 8.5 out of 10 score in Gamespot (haven't played it yet though), but I've been told its awesome. If you never played this game before, do yourself a favor and do so. You'd be missing out a lot. Here's the intro video of the game (which looks AWESOME even by today's standards) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2EDJbIyzpo P.s: Whoops, mispelled the title, its Abe's Oddysee
I remember playing it in a store once. Unfortunately, I never really owned my own ps(2) to play these games. But isn't Stranger's Wrath in a totally different world?
Well, It's the ''oddworld'' universe but several decades before the first games (not really sure though as I've never played it) but I'm sure its been made as a sequel. By the way, both Abe's Oddysee and Abe's exoddus have PC versions as well
I own Abe's Oddysee, but its nothing... compared to Abe's Exodus. Abe's Exodus is outstandingly brilliant, with beautiful environmental backgrounds, foes, death scenes, gameplay, puzzles, compelling you to find all the bonus areas to rescue every of Abe's kin... The game that I don't own thats in the Abe trilogy of Oddworld games is Munch's Oddysee. Its a behemoth change from the Abe games, and oddly still features Abe as its primary protagonist, but with Munch. Creating and upgrading an army is extreme fun, and it kind of gives it a 3rd person stragety game edge... but it totally isn't.
You can buy both oddworld's for 10$ on steam...i'll prob pick it up if they have a christmas sale. I still feel nostalgic thinking back to when i was 7-8 and played the shareware version non stop haha
Well, Abe's Exoddus is pretty much Abe's oddysee with more content. They both look and play the same pretty much. I love them both, but the 1st one has a special place in my heart because of the ''first impression'' thingie. I love old games like these that I played when I was 7-8 years old because.. at that time you just play them because they're fun.. but as you start growing up you realize there was a very intrincate plot behind it, and hell.. Even a subliminal anti-capitalism message .. you really don't have to look deep enough to realize the striking similarities between Rupture Farms and say.. those giant corporations like Swift that provide the meat to McDonalds.. And how consumers don't give a sh1t about what they're eating. And how companies only care about profit. And the whole 'working class rises up to overthrow their capitalist oppressors' has a communistic ring to it. Regardless of these readings, It's still a remarkably fun game to play.. quite easy to learn and pretty difficult to master.. and the storyline is just brilliant. And OMG I just found out that the makers of Oddworld are releasing a mature CGI film in 2010! I think It's called Citizen Siege.
I've played this game Abe's Oddyssee when it was released. Over 10 years ago. BUT only the demo. I remember this game. Fascinating, just for the only mission I played.
