I made a similar topic in the Questions/Feedback forum, regarding avatars losing size and animation when applied, so beforehand I apologize for being obnoxious and posting another topic. I thought this place might be a bit more appropriate. I found the Starcraft 2 Zerg Profile (the one you see on Starcraft2.com) on Starcraftwiki, and attempted to set it as my avatar. It was bigger that 70x70, so it shrunk and lost its animation. Is there anything, software or whatever, that I could use to edit the profile so it's both 70x70 and still animated?
Re: An question on Avatars When I made what you are using now I opened the image in GIMP (like photoshop but free) and cropped the edges off. You can open it most advanced image edition programs like photoshop or GIMP crop the extra space you don't want and then re-size the picture to the size you want. If you don't have any image edition software (paint does not count) you first needto get some. There are some free programs at http://paint.net or http://gimp.org/. I am not sure about paint.net but the GIMP works on Macs and Linux as well as Windows
Re: An question on Avatars It's strange: when i save profile from the wiki, it ends up not being animated. What should i save it as? GIF? JPG? :-\
Re: An question on Avatars Save as a .GIF Then Get Adobe ImageReady and open it. Then click file > open in photoshop. Once there, crop all the uneeded space. Then click file > open in imageready. Then File > Save optimized as > zerg.gif
Re: An question on Avatars You have to save as .gif or the animation sill be lost. Wait Sin does photoshop not handle animations? Bummer Just wondering because I opened it in GIMP and could crop it in one step. Kaara what image editing software do you have?
Re: An question on Avatars Right now, I only have GIMP on my school laptop. On my home one, i have photoshop, but home is 500-600 miles away right now. So, can you downloard ImageReady for free?
Re: An question on Avatars I am going to assume you are using your school laptop. What version of GIMP are you using. 2.4.4 just came out but I know at least 2.4.0 and up are able to crop .gifs. What you have to do is get the box select tool and select the area you want then go to the image menu and select crop to selection. If you want to resize then go to scale image in the image menu and make it small enough to fit in a 70x70 space. It is best to crop the image to a square before resizing so the forum software doesn't do funny things to it.
Re: An question on Avatars I went and downloaded GIMP when you told me of it. I have 2.4.4. When I opened it using GIMP, it lost animation again, and when i cropped it, and opened as an image, still no animation. I'll try once more, to make sure of what I'm doing.
it doesn't show animations while editing. To see if it workedgo to the folder its in and right click on the picture and click "view in internet explore/firefox/ect."
If you are much more comfortable using Adobe Photoshop then I suggest using a GIMP hack called GIMPshop. It reworks GIMP to make it look as close as possible to the real thing. But we can just forget software and use an online web tool which is located at http://www.online-image-editor.com/. Resizes and crops GIFs! What more do you need?
The one I found lying about on my computer looks much better:
We need to have an overhaul of the Avatar database. It needs to have all the animated unit avatars added to it for people to iuse Also where is the thread that had those in it anyway?
http://www.starcraft2forum.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=47&topic=2879.msg75606#msg75606 I think Reaker is occupied with university life nowadays and the mods haven't updated his posts with the animations of units that were released after he left.
The ones that are there now could still be added to the avatar gallery. As for the ones that aren't there; I am off school tomorrow so I can see what I can do about getting the rest. If anyone knows where to find a FREE (not-shareware) program to convert flash objects to gif.s without watermarking the images I would appreciate it
Reaker and I did it by recording them and then converting the .avi to .gif. A little awkward but does the job. Depending on what units are missing, I'll do the rest as well tomorrow... but if you're converting the .swf file directly then yours might turn out better.
