I've been playing the World Of Warcraft. And I found a scorpid tail lasher in the game. Just crab like enemy you have to beat. But the thing that got me was that the noises it makes sound exactly like a zerg from Starcraft. A mutalisk I think. but I'm not 100 percent sure I'd have to check starcraft again. I just think it's funny Blizzard would put SC sounds in WOW.
You know what, those Starcraft sounds are in commercials all the time. Every 3-4 month a new TV commercial comes out and then their is a random Starcraft sound. I played so much I can recognize them immediately. Is the individual sounds copyrighted?, did Blizzard pick their sounds from an World Database of random sounds? The latest one I heard was the pig sound a pig critter from War2 made when you clicked on it.... am I crazy?
No, you're not crazy, sound effects companies put together sound packs that other companies can buy to put in their commercials, movies, games, etc. A lot of stuff gets re-used. Something I always notice is a certain track of children laughing. It's really distinctive and every time I hear it I think of the first time I heard it on the intro screen to Diddy Kong Racing. One that many of you probably know is the Wilhelm, I personally piss myself whenever I hear it in something. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream
I've heard the sound of the Terran academy (without the music) countless times both in ads and in cheap sci-fi movies. Quite annoying after a while.
Yah I saw a movie trailer with the sound of a ghoul dieing from WC3. Damn it's so annoying to hear a sound you heard from somthing else in what you just saw.
Ohhhhh yeah. For the older forum-goers, it was the last sound they played during the beginning credits to that Nickelodeon show called "AHHH! Real Monsters!" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ickis
I loved that show! The Gromble always freaked me out though, I could never tell if he was male or female.
I know that sound from everywhere, and that cartoon is the first place I heard it. My favorite of the re-used sounds, is the sound of something catching fire. The same sound when you click on a firebat. It was in the game Lords of Magic, and in the movie Dragon Storm.
Nikzad : Thank you for the info. The one I keep hearing is the door opening sound I first heard in ElderScroll 2: Daggerfall. Every low budget TV shows just re-use that same sound.
Eastern Promises Tralier http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBcIoq4w7TY Listen to the last few seconds 2:17 Sound familiar?
I just saw an item in WOW called "Wirt's Third Leg". Well we all know where that comes from. And there's an area in Tanaris that I saw it and was like wow. The ground is purple like creep and has little holes in the ground with the 3 massive things in the air, exactly like the 3 spires that around the overmind that tower into the sky. When I was there I was like wtf? An overmind? But nah it only looks that way from afar. But till you're close it really looks like an overmind.
Yeah. Uh. The Silithid are basically the Zerg of Warcraft, complete with creep, vast numbers, etc. Also, fighting them is a *****, which is a lot like the Zerg, too D: Quite a few references to their other games in WoW, I'm pretty sure you could find a list of them on WoWWiki.
There was a ghoul named Timmy iirc Oh and of course The Lost Vikings, are dwarves in some instance I think
There's the Zerg briefing room music in Fight Club. The scene where Edward's character gets confronted by his boss on leaving a piece of paper, the rules of Fight Club, in the copier. Leading to him to start a little rant on somebody turning into a homicidal maniac in the workplace.
This is an interesting thread. Someone should compile similar sounds that are pretty certainly stolen or lent into a thread. The movie trailer is freaky. It's actually the beginning of the main theme track for StarCraft. I have also heard the "selecting" noise, like when you select a unit, the electronic throb, in many, many commercials. By the way, it's a new month. Don't forget to vote!
One of the probes sounds when you click it is the same sound from a game called Legend of the Dragoon, just before the final bit of a magic attack it done.
the lost vikings are also in WoW in the uldaman dungeon i have nothing against reusing sounds, but there is a small thing i find weird and kinda useless: They dont reuse all the good sounds. I have heard sounds from series that had far greater sound effects that also fit in that situation, but just arent used
