as we get closer to beta, alot of you might be thinking "can i run it?" "how much do i need to spend for a pc that will run this game?" well, i hope i can help you with a 350 dollar gaming computer build that comes with the fordinski stamp of approval for starcraft 2. there will be links provided for each computer part and a brief description. this list excludes computer peripherals, a monitor, and an operating system (exluded os because many people might already have a copy of xp or vista) (note that i do not know the minimum requirements for sc2 but due to the scalability of blizzard rts's and from what i see in the latest sc2 screenshots i almost guarantee this system will eat starcraft 2 for lunch) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208009 XION solaris case - $40 this case has alot of slots for hard drives, looks great! decent airflow for the following items, microphone and audio jack in front, and cable management holes in the motherboard tray so you can hide all the wires and get better airflow. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817162017 Broadway Com Corp 600watt power supply - 35$ i know! this is alot of power that you may never need, but its only 35 bucks and it has the juice to run the video card as well as everything else and leaves ALOT of room for upgradeability and overclocking! great reviews suggests this product is of high quality. definitely a good buy. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186151 Foxconn A74MX-K AM2+/AM2 AMD 740G. - $50 (40 after mail in rebate) yes, its a micro atx motherboard, but theres nothing wrong with that! all the easier to install into the xion solaris which is fully compatible. it comes with a pci-e 2.0 port for the following video card, and 2 pci ports for expansion cards such as a sound card (does have onboard audio so you dont exactly need a sound card). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103235 AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400 Brisbane 2.8GHz processor - $63 this is a VERY good processor for the money. many will say intel is in the spotlight for fastest processors, but i think AMD's proc's have way better value. starcraft 2 will probably only be single core optimised, but heres 2 cores with more than enough juice just in case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148160 Crucial 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel memory - $30 4 gigs of ram, ddr2 800, 15 newegg.com reviewers all rating the product 5 out of 5, for only 30 bucks. enough said. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136113 Western Digital Caviar 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $50 a good hdd with ample amount of space for gaming and then some. (note this product has free shipping right now) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135176 ASUS Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive - $20 a basic cd dvd drive. not blu ray, but who needs it? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130383 EVGA GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card - $80 EVGA is one of my favorite companies. their nvidia cards are of the best cards out there, and this 9500gt is an incredible value. this will run starcraft 2 no problem. heres a video review of this card http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJPkJyDmH10 there are benchmarks for your viewing in it. plays crysis with some graphics on high settings! and did i say it currently has a 20 dollar mail in rebate? well there you go. 368 dollars of stuff with 30 bucks of it back in your pocket after mail in rebates making it 338 bucks. this will also be good for other games such as COD4, crysis (to a certain extent) , world of warcraft, etc. if we compare this pc to a best buy computer of the same price, you may notice it may only have integrated graphics, a single core or low end dual core processor, 2 or 3 gigs of ram, a bland motherboard with NO room for upgrading, and doesnt look HALF as good as the xion solaris case i did not include an operating system, so if would hunt for a new OS, i recommend windows xp because of how problem free it seems, and doesnt hog up ram like vista. i would also recommend getting a 64 bit OS so it recognises all 4 gigs of ram. here is a step by step how-to post on how to build a gaming pc, including high quality photos! check it out. http://www.computerforum.com/104641-how-build-computer-step-step-photos.html if you read this hardware guide from starcraftwire.net here http://www.starcraftwire.net/articles/1637/kalos-starcraft-2-hardware-guide my sc2 gaming computer build meets and exceeds starcraftwire.nets recommended specs for playing the game. i hope this was helpful for anyone who is hunting for a computer on a budget to play this game. please leave feedback as i would appreciate it. think you can make a computer build faster than mine and cheaper? post it
Computers are getting cheaper and cheaper i think robots may just take over the world right around the time blizzard starts trying to.
LOL .. I came into this topic expecting it to be some more funny spam. Disappointed/10 Wait for system requirements before you base any rig on StarCraft 2.
that memory board does not support the RAM you suggested. tisk tisk but yea, nice thread. And PC hardware is super cheap right now, im taking this opportunity to upgrade cause its been so cheap. Its still sad to see though these kids buying pre-made crap machines for more money.
the memory does work. its 240 pin, supports dual channel, the memory doesnt need to be 1066 to work with the motherboard, the mobo supports any memory up to 1066mhz ram. any more and your pushing it, but the ram suggested is ddr2 800 and is fully compatible.
it is based on estimated system requirements from karune at starcraftwire.net. even if we dont have full confirmation on what the minimum requirements are for sc2, we can loosely tell what we need to get the game to run. that and you cant doubt the scalability of all blizzard games. when WoW came out, i played it on a computer i found on the side of a road in the rain by a bunch of garbage. ran fine. not the prettiest but playable. we can assume system requirements just as much as we can be excited for starcraft 2. come on, your gunna tell me that its going to need a minimum of a dual core proc and a 9500gt??
Ok. 1, wrong board. It should go in the computers and tech board, not this one. This is for discussing the game, not computers. 2 duplicate thread, Jon already made a thread for this.
I already bought my pc for starcraft 2..it cost be a little over $2,000 haha. you know..just to be safe Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz Asus Maximus Formula Gaming Motherboard 850W Power Supply Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX Corsair 4GB Dual Memory WD Raptor 150GB HD #1 WD 1TB HD #2 CreativeLabs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtremegamer sound card with windows xp home edition
Ok. 1. this is a general discussion board about anything starcraft 2 related and even if it isnt starcraft 2 branded i made this for people anticipating the game and on a tight budget, the computers and tech boards are generally anything related to tech, while my post is loosely based on a cheap computer for SC2. i see posts about only protoss units or posts about starcraft 2 lore in the general discussion board and not in their respective boards. woopy dingle. 2. ill be damned if he made a computer just like mine for 350 bucks.
Do you think you have some one of a kind Newegg.com searching power that the rest of us terrible searchers "couldn't begin to fathom"? Or do you just mean he chose [insert his processor] instead of [insert your processor]?
