2v2 troop control

So yesterday I did a 2v2 with a player who opted to give me control of his early troops so that he could tech up. I took my troops and his and harassed while he rolled in with a fleet of void rays a little later. Im pretty new to 2v2 strats, so I was wondering, how often does giving your teammate control of your troops happen in multiplayer?

2v2 random never.. If I 2v2 with a friend, then we might trade control just for the purpose of lowering/raising supply depots or moving a few units around. We rarely control each other's armies.

ok cool thanks. yeah i wasnt quite sure if it was mainsteam or not. i could see where it would be helpful if that 1 person could handle microing everything

It's actually quite beneficial.. I play as Z with P and we often give eachother control for a few reasons. Like being able to tech and build **** while your teammate controls both forces like you said. Makes controling and microing an army 10 times easier while also keeping up on economy and tech. Also because it syncs you and your teammates troops together, instead of sending both in as two groups

The friends I 2v2 with have little experience compared to me, so I usually tell them to give me control for micro. It is extremely beneficial... that way they can focus their low apm on pure macro, and I can grab their units and steamroll the opponent pretty easy.

I never play 2s with randoms, i hate depending on someone you don't know

with friends we always give each other control, because it is always needed, for instance, your teammate is being attacked by DTs, but you are the one with observers, you want him to be able to proactively use your observer instead of
"CRAP im being attacked by DTs, i need detectors"
    "where?"
    "here"
    "OK im sending now"

my diamond partner and i usually split up the army, where he takes control of all the melee units, and i the ranged OR where he controls the army while i control all the casters and big units such as colossi, battlecruisers, broodlords, tanks, thors, mothership etc...

it works out pretty good... often enough when we are attacking, there is a small attack going on in our base, one of us takes over and the other saves the base.

Obviously I play using ventrilo with my friends.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust some random with my units.

That's a lot like...like trusting some random with your units.

Hehe. I still enjoy 2v2 random though, just don't quite trust people.

And yet, if you're both diamond league, shouldn't you trust them?

I agree, it's difficult to do that. And it's not necessarily the micro decisions I'm scared of (see above), but the strategic/tactical decisions.

Maybe if I used the in-game voice system more, so you could develop a confirm/ask first relationship before doing something or let them know what strategic decisions you are making and not to muck with them.
