My buddy and I just bought the game. I'm personally used to playing Warcraft, this if my first starcraft experience. Protoss seems to have a pretty boss air game with the Void Rays and Carriers..I mean...every time I've been able to get a few of those out at a time it's almost always GG. Now, 2v2 is a different story. I do enjoy playing Protoss, but if Zerg is the smarter way to go, or a TT team, then I will. If I, as Protoss, went for a quick air game, and my buddy (being Terran) went for the MMM strategy, or something of that sort...would it work? Or is it better to do zealots charge and sentries and/or stalkers with teleport? We've been trying to figure out the best strategy for us to play 2v2...and still have fun. Rushing is alright and all..but building an army and harassing every now and then is much more enjoyable. Let me know your thoughts guys! Thanks- -Massacre
There's really no such thing as the "best" strategy. There are strategies that will work more often then others, and there are strategies that if undetected will almost always result in a win against an inexperienced player, but there's really no best, its all situational. Personally I would suggest using a sort of combined arms approach. A well balanced protoss/terran army is incredibly difficult to stop be it m&ms behind a zealot wall, or phoenixs flying escort on terran mech, whatever strat you choose can work. It depends how you do it.
Hey man- Thanks a lot for responding so quickly. I've read a TON about the zealot wall and M&M's behind. Now as far as upgrading unit defense / attack...is it worth it? And if so...how far should you go? Ex..1/3 Defense, or full on 3/3. Should his marauders get the concussive shot (I don't believe they come standard with it? If they do...then nevermind that question)? My zealots will obviously have the charge ability. Now on the other hand, how about ZT? Is PT or ZT "easier" to play? Him and I are basically beginners at this game haha...sucks to say that.
No one can really say that ZT or TT is better than PT, there hasn't been a whole lot of competitive experience for team matches. I usually just think of team games as 1v1 on a larger scale; you should do everything the same way, only coordinated with your team. Sometimes you can successfully get protoss air forces just like in 1v1, but you have to find the right circumstances for it, just like in 1v1.
In so far as upgrades, in anything longer then 5 minutes upgrades can make a difference. The difference is most keenly felt the larger the numbers you have, but its never useless. Personally I prefer to upgrade weapons before defense but if I have the chance I build 2 forges/evos/engineering bays to upgrade at the same time. In so far as the zealot m/m wall being more or less effective then say, all m/ms, well, like everything else its a matter of preference, all I can say is I have a harder time vs zeals AND marines then either by themselves even in larger numbers. Simpler? If you are new my suggestion is stick to protoss or terran, zerg are the most unique race, and are a bit harder to learn. Once you have a little bit of experience give them a try and you may just find you like them Marauders should always get concussive shot if possible, if nothing else so the enemy cant run. Lastly the EASIEST combo to play would be same race pairs. I once again its preference if thats the best
As for upgrades, the 2 forges actually isn't a bad idea. Sometimes I feel like I've got so many ideas running through my head, I don't know what the hell to do. Whether I want to upgrade my air attack / def. or upgrade my ground attack / def...ya know? Zerg- I think they are badass. I always enjoy playing the dark, weird races in games. I would LOVE to play them...if I knew what the hell i was doing. And for some reason, my buddy and I played ZT the other day against the computer, and I mean..I felt like I had 0 end game? Hydralisks...but that's it? Protoss..if I mass Rays and Carriers...it's game over, usually no matter what. If I found a way to build a nice army from Zerg that was effective and didn't get run over, i would definitely consider taking the time and learning the class. Terran / Terran...I feel like him and I could just play defense all day with Siege Tanks / AA Towers and build some ridiculous army that way. Still trying to feel it out...although I'm willing to give anything a try.
Zerg, as most pros say, are a reactive race. They must scout what the opponent is doing and react according to their builds most effective way. Usually, unless you are doing 6 pool rush, start the game with what to build in your mind. If you do that, then it will definitely be hard to beat the opponent. But once you get the hang of Zerg, you will love it's versatility especially in the late games, being able to switch to different units whenever desired, as long as you have enough resources that is
i never played broodwar either but picked up this game and i love it, Things to keep in mind is never stick to 1 stratagy every single game, even if your winning youll get bored very quikcly,as for what goes best with what, the answer is nothing, if X beat Y 100% of the time then what would be the point of Y? every race is diverse in there units, try them all in practice and youll find what you like best, As for advice reguarding protoss, the air we have is good, but VR's especially can be counterd fairly easily if your oppenent knows ure massing them, I mainly use air to harass/scout/kill expansions, but carriers are definatly awsome in late game.
