So, as i have discovered, 2v2 strats are so much different than 1v1 strats... I try applying what I know about 1v1...and pretty much i get torn apart. What kind of differences should I take into account? How can i use my partner in any kind of match up? For example, If i spot three gateways being put down by an enemy protoss, and mass marauders from a terran partner, what should my proper response be? I can't tech up to immortals fast enough to catch up to the zealot/marauder combo...nor can i mass up enough units if i've already put down my cybernetics...
Well you can basically try the same with your partner (this depends on your partner race), or you can go Voids. In many games me and my friend won by him building Voids while I harass with zerglings or they rush or harass me (as they figure toss with wall in while I cannot). As I noticed everyone loves to rush Zerg I normally put two spine crawlers inside the drones. A queen and few zerglings can stop a lot of enemies this way
Basic tips: Don't straight tech to VR - they will scout you, and they will rush you. Rush the protoss or the zerg, preferably the protoss Keep your army with your ally's - otherwise when they hit they will fight 2v1 - you will lose. Get AA. Get observers at their bsaes, and photon cannons near all expos. Control the map Try to divide and conquer (make them split their forces, then crush them while they're thin) Don't leave the opponents alone for more than 3 minutes at a time... keep them on their toes. As for counters... they're a lot more versatile in 2v2, seeing as you can create cross-race mixes. I suggest going for a lot of AoE in general. gl hf. ________ hotbox vaporizer
If you see an early rush all you really have to worry about is defending, spawning units behind a properly blocked choke based off of your race. After you survive the first attack expand (chances are your opponent is too) then you have a unit advantage if you survived the initial rush so build up a decent army and send to their expansions only, take them out and dominate the map. You can win off of Macro alone so FE and lock your opponent down and you have GG, just make sure you have the proper defenses at your expo and also inspect enemy units to see if they have upgrades, because these can determine battles on their own, even if the player with the upgrades has a smaller amount of units. If your opponent has no expo he will use all his resources, and you can easily see where he is going with these resources with scans, and you have a resource advantage so counters are no longer a problem for you. Just some quick and easy tips to make your playing a bit easier. Cheers
On a side note, can you do arranged teams in 2v2 ladder? Just wondering. I would like to find an actual partner rather than the random partners so we could work out resource sharing based strategies. I see all this potential there but can't really exercise any of it without someone I can strategize with outside of the game
Yes, you have to form a party and then queue for a 2v2 game. Invite your friend to a party, or vice versa. Then the party leader queues for a 2v2 game. If you've never played 2v2 games with THAT PERSON before then you'll need to play 5 placement games with them before you're placed into a league and your ranking can be seen. Each individual team has it's own rank. For example, if you have 2 friends that play a lot you guys could form 3 different 2v2 teams. Each one will have its own ranking. And each of you will have your own individual "2v2 Random" ranking as well, assuming you ever play 2v2 by yourselves. The "2v2 Random" ladder doesn't mean your race selection is random, it means you are paired with a random ally. Hope this helps. Lastly, as for resource sharing, I believe there's a time limit where you can't share resources in the beginning of the game until X time has passed. I don't know what the time limit is though. It's intended to prevent abusive rush strategies, or so I heard.
What I had one partner and I do was just go protoss-terran. Terran would bunker and get 22 scvs per base, the rest to mules and as many marines/bunkers necessary to keep the team alive (ideally one full bunker but sometimes it's good to get more). Then Protoss would just develop and play normal and once resource sharing kicked in quickly get 6-10 warpgates and just start mass producing. Terran would then grab expansion too and get another 22 scvs for it. By mid/late game I would often have ~15 warp gateways with 3 robos, all producing at max speed and my money would still be going up (so sometimes you'd need like 20 warp gates). It's not invincible but it's very strong. Counters are well timed attacks (usually the 5-6 minute period you're the most vulnerable), simply great macro play, mobile play (2 separate armies can drive one player nuts if he can't keep them in check), and waiting to get a larger than max army before pushing out (in which case your terran teammate needs to start massing).
