1. Toyish Graphics (history repeating itself) Quote from Eg-EliteGhost: "Color, WCIII is fantasy colors, Starcraft2 is too bright, Original starcraft was very good Faded, and not Annoying and bright." WC series has fantasy colors that look like toys. SC series was supposed to be dusty and dirty, metallic, realistic. SC2 looks like toys (just admit it blizzard). Just because former employees headed off in 3 directions DOES NOT MEAN you have to USE the toyish WC3 engine. Everything is colourful bright and CHUBBISH! This is history repeating itself - when SC1 first came out with the WC2 engine!!!!!! Everybody screamed bloody murder and said it was just WC2 with different units and different time setting. In the end blizzard made a brand new engine and released a classic of all time. So why the hell would you repeat the same mistake again? 2. Radical new features and changes to the Campaign mode. Blizzard has been known NOT to come up with original ideas or original game genres. They have always copied/altered great ideas from other games and then surpass all others. SC2 is borrowing major features from Dawn of War (Dark Crusade). I'm just suprised they haven't borrowed the successful campaign system from Rise of Nations. Yes SC2 will be very different from SC1 but Blizzard has ALWAYS make it work out in the end! I remember everybody screaming about adding "heroes" in WC3 but nobody is complaining now.
I don't really have a problem with the graphics. And the game isn't even an alpha yet, so how can you judge it? As they said, there are plenty of changes. Just check the first announcement trailer. There is almost nothing, that hasn't changed yet. AndI don't know why do you have a problem with implementing earlier but successful ideas in the game. I am sure they modify it to match the game, so it won't be like a bad copy of anything. This is my opinion..
1. They said something about changing the graphics somehow so it would look more realistic. But I don't find the current look to be toyish in any way. IMO, it just looks cool. 2. You don't like the new campaign style? I find it to be great. Originality? Almost nothing is truly original anymore. Good ideas are timeless.
2. I seem to have given the wrong impression. I totally AGREE with you Gm_k and Hunter. I said there's nothing wrong with borrowing ideas from other games - has always been a blizz tradition that WORKS. Just wondering why people would object to major changes because they''ll turn out just fine.
Its an alpha their concern is on the units. graphics and sound comes AFTER they have made the final decision on what is staying.
BoP is right, there is no point making every unit look perfect with an amazing design if they don't even know the unit will stay. I have faith in Blizzard.
frankly im excited that blizzard is trying new things with starcraft II, this could make the game stand out more in the crowd and make it the success it will be.
Borrowing ideas from other games is what makes a game good. Just like Dota, its like... EVERYTHING COMBINED!! Tank warz, etc. etc. etc. Even though they do take ideas from games, it depends what people think about it. I think its great because if you like that game, some of it is in Starcraft, but some people think its cheap and Blizzard cannot come up with their own ideas.
1. Okay, the graphics are fine. I don't care if they look toyish or not. Besides, as have been mentioned before, Blizzard's still tweaking with the colors and adding darker and grittier colors. Besides, graphics > gameplay. Starcraft 2 never was meant to be a graphics showcase, it's supposed to be a pure skill RTS. If you're a graphics whore go play Crysis or something. Once again, if you don't like it, don't play it. 2. Agreed. Blizzard's never actually been a revolutionary developer, they just polished the living daylights out of every concept they found good.
Hey Hellblade.. Buddy.. NO ONE CARES?? :-\ Please Keep in mind that this is alpha/pre-alpha... Look at SC I in alpha/beta stages... http://www.sclegacy.com/content/starcraft-encyclopedia-4/starcraft-evolution-12/ It was horrible X.X lol.. Orcs in Space definately... Anyways.. I think it's time for you to stop ur bs'ing because you've already made three* complaint threads. Okay u can complain about things you hate .. but u have absolutely no right to say that blizzard's going downhill =/ .. that's just insulting and a stupid thing to say since this is pre-alpha... LOL i've been playing SC I for 7-8 years now and I wouldn't be caught dead playing a game that looks like SC pre-alpha X.X... so quit ur complaining ~Unholy ~Edit at *
1) It appears that the Protoss are looking more "toyish" and the terrans less so. If this is part of attempts to make the races stand out visually then I think they should explore it further. When you start seeing teddy bears with guns you know they've gone too far. 2) New and better implementations of other's ideas is originality. I like the new ideas for the campaign mode it makes it more interesting. I haven't played the other games referred to on this thread but I will play Starcraft 2 when it comes out. Nothing wrong with "complaint threads". It's all good to get debate flowing.
The thing that has been getting on my nerves with SC2 complaints has been that the game looks too cartoonish. These people... you guys know who you are, are seemingly oblivious to the fact that SC1 itself is extremely cartoony, colorful, and stylized. SC2 looks exactly like SC1 would look if it were 3D, and suddenly people have problems with the style. Can any of you guys explain this to me?
I think they just want to find something bad in the game.. Actually, many people complain about units, abilities, names.. I even heard comlains about the terrain in SC2. Ok I don't say you must agree everything Blizzard tries out, but man, this is just a game, and it can be good even it is not exactly like your idea! About the graphics, I agree with you 10-neon. The thing is that starcraft was made for 640*480 resollution, so could contain a bit less details, and now wow, everyone notices every single stuff (even the grass) they don't like. Besides, the game is only alpha yet. And they won't only balance for that long time till SC2 comes out. There is hard work with the textures, and developement, as we could see in the original Starcraft's alpha and beta stages. I most of you aren't just complaining, and appreciate the work of the developing team Peace
